Guy Finds Friday: Going Rogue

Hi everyone, and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week, Amanda found me an awesome new pilsner glass- Dead Guy Ale, brewed in Oregon by the Rogue Brewing Company.

She likes it for the heft of the glass, but I just think beer tastes best in a pre-frosted, guy-themed pilsner glass.

Pilsner Glass, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
So lets everyone raise our thrifted beer glasses for a Guy Finds Friday toast! Cheers to thrifty, amazing wives!

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Bye Bye Miss American Pie...

Hi everyone, and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week I have a cool thing to show you guys that Amanda picked up at an estate sale this past weekend: a Rye decantor!

When she showed it to me, my first thought was that it was awesome. My second: the Don McLean song American Pie. You've gotta love those lyrics: 'Them good 'ol boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye, singing this'll be the day that I die.'

Rye Decantor, Estate Sale ($1)
Although I probably won't be filling this with rye any time soon, it will look great next to my whiskey decantor!

Is that manly enough for you? Happy guy finds Friday!

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Wine-ing

Hi everyone, and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

Sorry I've been MIA around here for awhile- I just hadn't found anything to show you guys. Of course, all that changed this past Saturday when I found something I've been searching for for months: a wine rack!

Wine Rack, Goodwill Outlet ($1)
Pretty cool, huh? The only drawback was that it was missing the dowels to put it together, so I had to get those at Lowe's. But for a couple bucks total, I finally have a wine rack! (And no wine to store in it right now. Oh well, it still looks cool.)

Until next time,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: The Empire Strikes Back

Hi and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week, I've got a snow speeder from Star Wars Episode V. Amanda found it in one of the Goodwill Outlet bins last week, and it's from 1980!

Vintage Star Wars Snow Speeder, Goodwill Outlet
The closest thing to Star Wars toys I had growing up were legos and the occasional cheapo lightsaber. Although it is missing a few parts, it's pretty cool to have a Star Wars toy that's older than I am.

I can still see this snow speeder flying above the surface of Hoth and taking down AT-AT's. I guess I am a Star Wars nerd at heart. Strong is the force, with this one!

Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Nerd Alert

Hi everyone, and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week, Amanda found me some awesome records from the Star Trek movie and Battlestar Galactica! What can I say? The woman knows me well.

Records, Goodwill ($1 each)
These are worth it for the cover art alone, but you can bet I'll be blasting these on our record player while I play my Xbox 360. I know, I know. Nerd alert.

But you know what? Sometimes it's cool to be a nerd.

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: A Connoisseur's Guide to Cigars

Hi and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

For this week's post, I'll share with you an awesome cigar book Amanda found for me this past Saturday.

Cigar Book, Goodwill Outet ($0.50)
Not only does this book provide a guide to cigars, but it also has handy quotes from famous people like Mark Twain and Bill Cosby!

It's always good to have come cigar quotes up your sleeve. You never know when you'll need one!

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Nothin Beats a Ford

Hey everyone, and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh! This week, I'm going to show you my newly thrifted Ford backpack.

Why is this such a big deal? I have a Ford Mustang GT that I love. I've been a Mustang fan since my dad first drove his Mustang home when I was in fourth grade.

Ford Backpack, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

While Amanda insists on calling this my new 'man bag,' I prefer to think of as a manly backpack that I can keep my guy things in.

It looks pretty guyish, right?

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Plane Awesome

Hi and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week I'm going to show you something Amanda thrifted for me before we even got married. She found this awesome wooden F-16 at a Goodwill in our Florida hometown, and now it has a place of honor on our mantle.

Wooden Plane, Goodwill of Brandon
I've loved planes since I was little, so this is a cool thing to have. And although it's not as interactive as the RC planes my dad and I fly, it fits in our apartment a little better!

I think that it helps to put a little bit of 'man' in our 'mantle', you know?

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: The Pyromaniac

Hi and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This past Friday I went antiquing with the wife and I found something my inner pyromaniac has always wanted: strike anywhere matches! You can light them by striking them on pretty much any hard surface.

They are hard to find nowadays, as they are a little bit of a fire hazard. (A few of my friends have found them online, though.)

Strike Anywhere Matches and Holder; Cigar Cutter; Both: Heritage Antiques
The other thing I picked up at the antique store that night is this neat cigar cutter. It offers three different ways of cutting cigars, depending on their size. The design of the plastic handle is pretty sweet, too.

With these finds, I can cut a cigar and light it almost anywhere. (Just don't tell my wife!)

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: The Black Knight Always Triumphs

Hi everyone, and welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week, I'm going to show you a sweet vintage pipe I picked up a couple weekends ago. It was only five bucks, which made it even more great in my book.

Vintage Pipe, Midlothian Antiques ($5)
The shape is unique and the grain of the wood is really nice, which are two main things I look for when I'm searching out old pipes. (No chips in the mouthpiece helps too!)

Nothing beats the name of this one, though. The Black Knight. Awesome.

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: One Luxuriant Moustache

Welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This week I'm showing you guys something Amanda and I thrifted almost a year ago, but it's so cool. We found this mirror/picture hybrid at Family Thrift for a mere $2.99:

Moustache Mirror, Family Thrift ($2.99)
Being a guy who sports facial hair, I can appreciate a crazy moustache. I would grow one like this myself, but I'd likely get booted out of the apartment and my job!

Oh well. I guess I'll have to stick to my clean-cut beard and saying things moustached guys would say. You know, like 'indubidibly' and 'top notch.' While enjoying a pipe.

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Poker Dogs

Welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

This past weekend, I went to a car show in North Carolina with some friends, so it was up to Amanda to find me something cool to talk about today.

I think she did an awesome job, 'cause I've been wanting one of these pictures for a long time:

Poker Dogs Framed Photo, Goodwill ($5)
How can you beat something with dogs, a pipe or two, some cigars, and cards on it? You can't.

When it comes to guy finds, this is the ultimate. I obviously have an awesome wife to pick this out for me! (Amanda made me write that...ha ha!)

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Turtles in Time

Welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh!

You know how I talked about my Super Nintendo Amanda and I pulled out of the Goodwill bins a couple weeks ago? Well, I found another cool thing there this past weekend. Three words: Awesome. Radical. Cowabunga!

Before my eyes: Turtles in Time! (Insert evil laugh here.)

Turtles in Time SNES Game, GoodwilL Outlet ($1)
The Ninja Turtles have always held a special place in my heart. I even went to see the second Turtles movie on my birthday in first grade. I would quote the movie all the time: "I'll say it once, and I'll say it again...man, I love being a turtle!"

And everyone has a favorite Turtle. Mine's Raphael. What's yours?

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: Momentum at its Best!

Welcome to another Guy Finds Friday with Josh! This week, I'm going to show you a simple, yet awesome toy from my childhood that was recently acquired at Goodwill Outlet.

The Duncan Butterfly Yo-Yo was one of the first toys I remember. Thanks to my Dad, I understood the mechanics of it from a young age. We'd impress my mom with my explanation of gravity and momentum.

Duncan Butterfly Yo-Yo; Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
Now that I've grown up (at least on the outside), I can do more fancy tricks and impress my wife with my skills! What a cool thing to find at the bottom of a Goodwill bin!

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday: A Classy Humidor

Welcome to this week's Guy Finds Friday with Josh. Today I'm going to show you my best thrifted find ever. Usually when I go thrifting, there are three things that I look for: video games, old pocket knives, and vintage pipes.

I branch out from these from time to time, but they are pretty much what I'm after. So imagine how awesome it was when I spied this humidor in the bins at the Goodwill Outlet!

Humidor, Goodwill Outlet ($4.50)

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it- it was in great shape with just a little bit of dust! There was a key hole, but no key. Suddenly, a hippie dude came up to us. "Nice find," he said. "I think this is the key."

I thanked him, tried it, and it worked! I gladly paid the $4.50 for my newly found humidor.

When we got home, I put a bit of cleaning and care into it, and it was ready to be used:

The drawer on the bottom stores lighters and matches.
With my awesome thrifted humidor, I feel like a true cigar connoisseur.

Until next week,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday, By Josh

Greetings fellow thrifters! It's Josh, aka: the hubby. Although I don't thrift to live and live to thrift, I do tag along sometimes, in search of 'mantiques'...

Saturday, at Goodwill Outlet, Amanda and I stumbled upon this Super Nintendo in one of the bins. I couldn't believe my eyes, 'cause just minutes before I'd been thinking that I wanted one! It's the only 1990s mainstream gaming system I haven't owned.

SNES, Goodwill Outlet ($3); SNES Games, Diversity Thrift ($3 each)

Later that day, we took a trip to Diversity Thrift, where I'd never been. On the way, I couldn't stop thinking about finding games for my new SNES. When we got there, I went straight to the glass cases and there were the Super Nintendo games I'd been looking for!

I guess, with guy finds like these, my thrifting's far from 'Game Over'.

Until next Friday,
Josh

Guy Finds Friday

In light of the fact that my dad and uncle and a couple other guys read this little blog, I've decided to start 'Guy Finds Friday'! I'm hoping my awesome, slightly reluctant thrifting buddy (my hubby) will write one of these posts soon :)

This week, I'm going to show you the cool guy things I got for him this past weekend:

Vintage Metal Airplane, Goodwill Outlet; Vintage Razor, Estate Sale; Niagara Falls Pipe, Estate Sale
My favorite would have to be the crazy razor! You squeeze the two handles and it really works like an electric one. (Unfortunately, the hubby found this out the hard way when we saw one at an antique store once. He shaved a whole patch of hair right off his arm!)

The pipe, while not totally functional, was only a dollar and has 'Niagara Falls' on it! Definitely a manly souvenir if I've ever seen one.

I hope you have a happy Friday! I can't wait to hit the thrifts tomorrow :)

Always,
Amanda
