Vintage Fish Ribbon, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

Goodwill Outlet this past Saturday was a gold mine of cool little vintage things! I especially loved this sturdy vintage ribbon with fish on it. :) (Yes, I know they are upside-down in the photo!)

I think I might try to make a belt with this eventually, but right now I have it wrapped around my computer chair to spice it up a little.

Patchwork= Awesome

Patchwork Pillow, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

I am so in love with everything patchwork and/or quilted! There's something so homey about it that always draws me in. In the case of this awesome vintage pillow, I spotted it from across Goodwill Outlet...and speed-walked right to it! After some thorough washing, it's my new 'reading pillow'- the perfect size and shape for propping up my head to read book after book. :)

Speaking of books, what are you guys reading? I'm usually in the middle of quite a few at a time. Right now, I'm reading: On The Road by Jack Kerouac; Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert; and Bringing Home the Birkin by Michael Tonello. I have a bunch of books lined up to read as well! Such a book nerd. :)

What a Dollar Will Get You...

Vintage Unopened Tennis Balls; Vintage Wall Decor; Vintage Love Mug; All: Church Yard Sale ($1)

...At a church yard sale :) I saw this little sale at a local church on my way to the thrifts, and I had to stop! I'm glad I did, 'cause I picked up all these vintage goodies for a dollar!!!

My favorite thing here has got to be the 'Love' cup. :) So cute! I almost couldn't believe it when the lady at the booth said, "How about a dollar for all of it?" I just agreed and handed the dollar over with a huge smile on my face. :)

I also got the prettiest shades of OPI nail polish for a buck each, including the absolute perfect shade of peach. I'll definitely be showing it off soon. :)

A Thing for Seed Beads

Vintage Beaded Coin Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($0.25)

You all know how much I love pretty vintage things, and what better than a vintage item made with tiny seed beads? I swear, one of these days all my tiny-beaded things will fall apart, and I'll never be able to get the little things off the floor. :)

But isn't this vintage coin purse pretty? I love finding things like this at Goodwill Outlet, because there's no markup for it being cool and old, like there would be at certain other thrift shops. And of course, you just can't beat the price!

Pulling Vintage out of a Hat

Vintage Leather Wallet, Goodwill Outlet ($0.50)

I swear I talk about this every day, but it really is amazing what can be found in the Goodwill Outlet bins! In regards to vintage, especially.

I've found all sorts of old things...my favorites being a 1950s Viewmaster, 60s and 70s doll clothes for Blythe, and even 60s Barbie party napkins still in the plastic wrap! The new goes quickly at Goodwill Outlet, but the old still has a fighting chance of coming home with a non-elbow-throwing gal like me.

This vintage patent leather wallet is one of those finds I couldn't believe. It's in perfect condition, with the original card inside with the maker's info and a space for your vital numbers. Such a neat thing to grab out of a random bin filled with broken old cell phones, doll heads, and the like.

Ahhh, Goodwill Outlet. Always an adventure.

Vintage Beads, A Love Story

The only thing I like better than finding something cool for two bucks at the antique mall is finding vintage wooden beads on a necklace for the same.

Vintage Wooden Bead Necklace, West End Antiques ($2)

I love this necklace because:
#1: It happens to be orange and blue.
#2: Chippy paint on wooden beads is awesome.
#3: It is a ready-made, go-to necklace in non-metal, which is surprisingly hard to find.

Wocka Wocka Wocka

Vintage Fozzie Bear Mug, Good Samaritan ($0.75)

I found quite a few cool little things on Saturday, but the hubby's favorite by far is this Fozzie Bear mug! He ran right to it when he got home from work :) I couldn't pass this little guy up for a mere 75 cents.

Did you all grow up watching the Muppets? I am from the generation that grew up with Muppet Babies...my little brother and I watched it all the time.

A Treasure Trove of Vintage Clothes!

Vintage Doll Clothes, Goodwill Outlet (about $0.50)

These (unfortunately miniature) vintage clothes are amazing! Most are handmade, with one or two being Ideal brand from the 60s :) And they are the perfect size for my Blythe doll!

I found these pretty little doll clothes spread out over a couple bins at Goodwill Outlet on Saturday, but they all seem to have been for the same doll. The handmade ones remind me of my mom, who had a Velvet doll that her aunt made clothes for when she was a kid.

Speaking of family, my poor hubby got in a car accident on Wednesday :( He's okay, but it's so much work getting everything with the insurance and his car taken care of. Such a bummer. But hopefully this weekend will be better!

My Valentine's Chair :)

I've gone on and on about the pretty vintage ice cream shop chair my hubby got me for Valentine's Day, so here, finally, it is:

My New Favorite Necklace

When I spotted this necklace on Saturday at Midlothian Antiques, I knew I had to have it! Of course, the hubby's not a huge fan. (He said it reminded him of a grade-school teacher! I said, 'What's wrong with that? Teachers are pretty awesome!!')

I like how huge the beads are, and how they're reminiscent of vintage bakelite. And that it's an awesome piece of non-metal jewelry!

I've been wearing it pretty much non-stop, excluding work, and it matches everything! If this necklace gives me that schoolteacher look- bring it on!

The Painted Lady

I had such a great thrifting day Saturday! We took my sis-in-law out to my favorite thrifts, and she showed me one of her favorites! I found all sorts of lovely things, but I'm going to share the girliest one first :)


Handmade 1960s Lady Lipstick Holder, 60 West Antiques ($5)

She's the perfect size to twirl necklaces around, and to hold little pins! (As I only have one tube of lipstick to my name, which I never even use...)

I actually had been wanting this for awhile, but it was placed at the very top of a shelf in this little antique mall, and I always forgot about it. Once the hubby got it down for me, I liked it even more! Such a unique and cool thing to have :)

A Wolf Hat, A Polaroid, and Snow!

I got one of the new Polaroid 300 cameras for Christmas from my parents, and it's awesome! I went a little Polaroid crazy on Christmas Eve and Christmas :)

Here's one of my favorite presents- a wolf hat/ scarf from my hubby!

I love the wallet-size pictures that the new Polaroid takes! And with our new wireless scanner/printer from my in-laws, I can have the best of both worlds: a physical Polaroid and a digital copy :)

I especially like the effect of this shot, taken outside on Christmas day while it snowed. Is anyone else a big Polaroid fan?

My Thrifted Holiday Outfit: Christmas Eve Sunshine

It's so weird to look at this outfit photo from just two days ago, because it was so sunny then! Now, it's snowing outside and looking a lot more like the holidays :)

Here's what I wore for a day of gingerbread house making (and accidentally destroying-woops!), Christmas lights looking, A Christmas Story watching, board game playing and late-night church service attending- a pretty cool Christmas Eve:

My Thrifting Outfit: Christmas Stripes and Leopard Spots

I am going to begin this post with a warning: this outfit is pretty far out of my comfort zone! While in blog land a large vintage men's shirt with leggings and leopard print shoes is fairly normal, you know how much of a jeans-and-tee girl I am :)

Have an Eye Opener

I can't get over how great my mom did thrifting on Saturday :) She was the one who found the most unusual item- a wine bottle topper with an eye that closes and opens! 'Have an eye opener' it urges from the top of your favorite red. How cool, right?

The poor old book's leather cover started crumbling in our hands, but it's so old and lovely that I had to have it! Old books are definitely a weakness of mine.
The glasses and bike decor I got because they are so cool! I can't resist neat old things, even if the bike just represents something old.

I think that finally wraps up our great weekend with my awesome mom! We had so much fun :)

Hi, Dooney!

I get especially excited when I find something really nice at the thrift store. Doesn't everyone? But the other night, I was browsing at my local Goodwill, and there it was! A perfect vintage Dooney and Bourke bucket bag!

The coolest thing about it was that I had just sold my other vintage D & B bag in my etsy shop. I was kind of sad to let it go, and then a replacement appeared at Goodwill that same day! It's funny how things work sometimes :)

Two Pretty Little Typewriters

I couldn't believe it when I found a pretty aqua-colored typewriter for ten bucks at the estate sale we went to Sunday. I usually don't even bring that much money to estate sales, but this perfect-condition beauty was worth it!

Of course, I couldn't show off one typewriter without giving my other one a little blog time :) The pretty, black Royal typewriter belonged to my Grammy, who gave it to me at Christmas last year! I love it so much!

The best thing is that they both work! It's pretty funny to hear me typing up something though, because they are pretty loud :)

The one that Grammy gave me even has brushes to keep the typewriters clean and free of dust. You better believe I'm taking the best care of my lovely treasures!

Don't mind the silly title- it's the best I could come up with for the two things I got for myself Saturday! The Goodwill Outlet bins had both of these random treasures:

pH Indicator; Vintage Stuffed Bear Keychain; Both: Goodwill Outlet

The pH indicator is just plain nerdy awesome! You just rip off a little piece and put a droplet of water on it and bam! You know the pH :) What a great conversation starter, huh? (Or maybe conversation ender...)

The bear keychain is so quirky cute that I couldn't resist the llittle guy. He's a little big for an actual keychain, but I'm sure I'll find a use for him.

The Evening News

By far my favorite purchase this past weekend I snagged at the estate sale I went to Sunday. I found none other than an authentic vintage newspaper carrier's bag!

It didn't have a price tag on it, and I was almost too scared to ask since I'd seen similar ones go for about a hundred bucks.

The man from the estate sale company pondered for quite a bit before offering the price of $4. (!!!) He said the bag was from a now-defunct newspaper in Nova Scotia.

While he rang up my purchases, we talked some more about the awesome bag. I told him that I was a journalism graduate, which was why I thought having an old newspaper bag was so neat.

He said that he had a journalism degree too, and that he'd worked for the Richmond newspaper for many years before he retired. Pretty cool stuff.

Thrifted Miscellany

 For lack of a better way of grouping these things together, today I'm showing you all the rest of this past weekend's finds!

Vintage Hat, Goodwill Outlet; Longaberger Basket Bag, Estate Sale; 1909 Good Health Book, Love of Jesus; 1940s and 50s Woman's Day Magazines, West End Antiques

I usually don't look in the 'hat bins' at Goodwill Outlet, but after finding this gem, I'd better start! It's the perfect fall hat :) The magazines and old book are pretty funny. There's a whole chapter in 'Good Health' about smoking's affects on cats and dogs!

The purse was an unexpected find, and will probably be given as a Christmas present. (I hope this person isn't reading this post...Lol.)
