Estate Sale Treasure

Vintage Radio, Estate Sale ($2)
The only thing I got from last Sunday's estate sale was this awesome, still in the box, radio! This photo doesn't even show the best part- the back, which is this great 70s green! It's always neat to find stuff like this brand new from 40-plus years ago. You wonder if the former owner got it as a gift and it wasn't their style, or if they bought it for someone and forgot about it. At least, I wonder these things. The best part of estate sales is taking a look at the past...

Have a great Saturday, everyone!!!

A Little JCrew

JCrew Suede Flats, Goodwill Outlet ($2.50)
You all know by now how much I love JCrew, and how much I love their flats! Well, I found the perfect ones at Goodwill Outlet on Saturday! Perfect except they are about a size too big for me. Ah, well. You can't win them all. I plan on bringing them on our family vacation next month to pass on to my mom. :)

I don't think I've mentioned it yet, but me, my hubby, my parents, and possibly my brother are going to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe for a week in May! I am sooooo excited!!! I hear the thrifting/vintage stores are awesome in San Fran, and I can't wait to see all the sights and hang out with some of my favorite people in the world- my family.

Temps are rising...

Vintage Thermometer, Goodwill Outlet ($1)
I grabbed this cool (sort-of) working thermometer right out of the Goodwill Outlet bin on Saturday! It's pretty neat how it works, but I admittedly got it for its looks. :) I have it on our kitchen counter, and unfortunately the 80 degree ball has been up at the top by itself for the past couple days. It looks like spring might already be over for us- summer here we come!

Spring has Sprung

Watering Can Vinyl Purse, Heritage Antiques
I couldn't resist sharing this with you all, even though I've already given it to my gardening-loving mother-in-law. :) Isn't it just the perfect spring bag? When I bought it, the owner warned me (jokingly, of course) to not actually use it to water plants!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was too short! I do have half-days today and tomorrow though, so maybe I'll head out to the thrifts again. :)

A Little Fishy

Vintage Fish Ribbon, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
Goodwill Outlet this past Saturday was a gold mine of cool little vintage things! I especially loved this sturdy vintage ribbon with fish on it. :) (Yes, I know they are upside-down in the photo!)

I think I might try to make a belt with this eventually, but right now I have it wrapped around my computer chair to spice it up a little.

I hope your weekend is great! Mine starts this afternoon- so here's to hoping the morning goes by quick and easy!

The Tale of the Headless Sailor

Headless/ Toe-less Lladro Sailor, Goodwill Outlet ($1)
When I saw this poor, broken guy in the Goodwill Outlet bin on Saturday, I knew just what he was. You see, my Grammy collects Lladros, and for about a buck, I had to have this headless fellow!

The funny thing about this is that I think I like him better without a head. Here's a photo of an intact one. (It is kind of cool that the original has a pipe. The hubby would like that.) But I like him better as I've put him to use: with a fabric flower where the head should go! I'll take a photo sometime. :)

Patchwork= Awesome

Patchwork Pillow, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
I am so in love with everything patchwork and/or quilted! There's something so homey about it that always draws me in. In the case of this awesome vintage pillow, I spotted it from across Goodwill Outlet...and speed-walked right to it! After some thorough washing, it's my new 'reading pillow'- the perfect size and shape for propping up my head to read book after book. :)

Speaking of books, what are you guys reading? I'm usually in the middle of quite a few at a time. Right now, I'm reading: On The Road by Jack Kerouac; Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert; and Bringing Home the Birkin by Michael Tonello. I have a bunch of books lined up to read as well! Such a book nerd. :)

What a Dollar Will Get You...

Vintage Unopened Tennis Balls; Vintage Wall Decor; Vintage Love Mug; All: Church Yard Sale ($1)
...At a church yard sale :) I saw this little sale at a local church on my way to the thrifts, and I had to stop! I'm glad I did, 'cause I picked up all these vintage goodies for a dollar!!!

My favorite thing here has got to be the 'Love' cup. :) So cute! I almost couldn't believe it when the lady at the booth said, "How about a dollar for all of it?" I just agreed and handed the dollar over with a huge smile on my face. :)

I also got the prettiest shades of OPI nail polish for a buck each, including the absolute perfect shade of peach. I'll definitely be showing it off soon. :)

Found: Vintage Market Bag!

Vintage Market Bag, Goodwill Outlet ($2.50)
I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I looked in the purse bin at Goodwill Outlet on Saturday and spotted just what I was looking for!! Sometimes, thrifting seems like magic. To be able to find (and afford) things I normally wouldn't be able to makes thrifting so worth it to me.

Now, if I could just thrift a Nintendo 3DS (soooo awesome!) and this new camera I saw at Wal*Mart that I just LOVE...

Roy G. Biv

Beaded Choker Necklace, Good Samaritan ($3)
I love colorful things. Some days, I just want to pile on all the colors of the rainbow, whether they match or not. (Kind of especially if they don't.) So for days such as those, this necklace is perfection.

It not only incorporates lots of color, but it is also blessedly metal-free! It's always so nice when I can find a necklace I can wear as-is. :)

Have a great Thursday!

Buckles and Leather

Eddie Bauer Briefcase Bag, Goodwill Outlet ($2.50)
I was so excited to grab this bag from the Goodwill Outlet bin on Saturday! I am loving the double-buckle, top-handle look lately, and this messenger bag fits the bill. The leather is also pretty nice, which is a nice plus. :)

This week is going by pretty fast- it's already Wednesday! Let's hope it keeps on chugging right toward Friday!!

My Thrifting Outfit: Pink, Blue, and Shrek Green

One of Saturday's favorite finds was something really, really silly: a Burger King Shrek watch! It's cute, plastic, and fun- I loved looking down at it all day Sunday! (Sorry- I'm a really big plastic watch nerd since I can't wear metal ones. :))

Button-Up, Target Clearance ($9); Striped Sweater, Gift from In-Laws; Jeans, Burlington ($15); KSwiss Shoes, Rugged Warehouse ($19); Scorpion Bolo, Heritage Antiques ($6); Bag, G.O. ($2.50); Shrek Watch, G.O. (<$1)
This outfit was not quite warm enough for Sunday's weather, since we were outside most of the day. We celebrated the hubby's birthday at the remote control airplane flying field, where we also had a cookout. I was shivering a little bit in the cold wind!

Here's a close-up of Mr. Shrek:

Do you rock silly accessories, or is it just me and the third graders?

Always,
Amanda

PS: Happy 26th birthday, Josh!!!!

Spring has Sprung...and a Duck!

Our tree outside our apartment has bloomed :) So pretty!
I just had to share this photo I took of my favorite tree outside our apartment. The blooms appeared so suddenly! (I think really that spring is just such a new concept to me, being from Florida and not experiencing many seasons...)

Anyway, here's one of the more random things I picked up at Goodwill Outlet on Saturday: a stuffed duck! I'd love to also find a stuffed Bass fish, since Bass is my maiden name. :)

Stuffed Duck, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
Couldn't you just picture this in an old country lodge? Or, okay, in a 'country-chic' home of the 1980s... But I like it nonetheless! I just can't resist animal things. :)

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Amanda

Three Dimensional

1950s Textured Wall Art, Estate Sale ($2.50)
I loved the estate sale we went to last Sunday. I don't know how they are elsewhere, but here in Richmond, estate sales have the best stuff waiting in the basement! We found the War of the Worlds book for less than a buck, a very old wooden baseball bat for $2.50 and this wall art for the same.

In addition to this pretty scene, (which, in case you missed the post title, pops out from the frame) there was a Florida Panther one! I loved it, but I couldn't convince the hubby that we should take both home. Alas, we just have this pretty vintage mountain-scape.

I am so glad it's Saturday! Thrift days are my absolute favorites (can you tell?!), so I'm super excited. :) Plus, tomorrow we're celebrating the hubby's birthday with his family, so that should be cool too. Have a good one!

War of the Worlds

Vintage War of the Worlds, Estate Sale; ($0.25)
I must admit that I never saw the movie War of the Worlds... and that this old book appealed to me mostly because of the awesome cover! While I am an avid reader (I go through about 3 books a week), I haven't read this yet either, but I plan to.

Usually with older books, I am drawn to the ones that look the coolest- and what's cooler than this crazy scene?

Do you all do the same, or do you pick out books like a normal person (ie: by their content!)?

Homer's Head

Homer Cookie Jar, Goodwill Outlet ($2)
Here's my silliest find of them week- a Homer head cookie jar! We're currently using it as a banana holder, but I'm envisioning it as the coolest flower vase ever.

Ah, the random goodies that can be found at good old Goodwill Outlet. :)

$2.50 Uggs

Ugg Boots, Goodwill Outlet ($2.50)
I've always been a bit wary of Ugg boots. I mean, I know they're not the cutest things in the world. But in my world, usually comfort wins in the battle of comfy or stylish...

I would never spend the normal amount on Ugg boots, but when I found them in the Goodwill Outlet bin, in my size, I had to snatch them up! I think they'll be perfect for lazy days with a bite of chill in the air.

Have a great Monday!

An Old Stuffed Panda and a Mini Tea Cup

Vintage Panda; Vintage Japan Tea Cup and Saucer; Both: Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
Although I know my sis-in-law does read this blog sometimes, I can't resist posting about the two little things I thrifted for her last Saturday. Ashley loves pandas and Japanese finds, so these both were begging to be snatched up for her. :)

The little stuffed panda is pretty old- I'd say at least from the 30s or 40s. (Yes, I am aware the eyes are creepy!) And although there was only one set, this little play tea cup and saucer were so cute I couldn't pass them up!

It's always really fun to thrift items for other people. I swear that would be my dream job- like a personal shopper, but a personal thrifter and gifter.

Well, I'm off to work, but hopefully the hubby and I will find some great things this afternoon!!

Amanda

A Thing for Seed Beads

Vintage Beaded Coin Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($0.25)
You all know how much I love pretty vintage things, and what better than a vintage item made with tiny seed beads? I swear, one of these days all my tiny-beaded things will fall apart, and I'll never be able to get the little things off the floor. :)

But isn't this vintage coin purse pretty? I love finding things like this at Goodwill Outlet, because there's no markup for it being cool and old, like there would be at certain other thrift shops. And of course, you just can't beat the price!

Have a good one! :)

A Checkered Past

Checkered Sunglasses, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
...And let the red and white madness continue!!! Lol. Another find in Saturday's outfit colors was this checkered pair of sunnies, made in Taiwan. When I saw them in the bottom of the G.O. bin, I couldn't believe the vintage coolness of them!

They totally remind me of my hubby's ska music-obsessed days. (And I couldn't resist the post title...I mean, who knows? When you buy things at Goodwill Outlet, they very well might've had a checkered past. Hence the super-sanitizing that goes on after purchasing things!)

I hope you are having a great week so far. :)

Always,
Amanda
