Green Suede Shoes

Green Suede Boots, Good Samaritan ($4)
Man, I've been on a roll finding boots lately. Probably because the weather's starting to get warmer! But these are short and breathable enough for spring :)

There's something so exciting about finding brand new suede shoes for less than five bucks. Ah, thrifting. Good times :)

I hope you have a great Monday!

My Thrifting Outfit: Braids in my Hair and Zebra on my Shirt

I was going through my closet the other night, and I found my favorite zebra shirt! I tried -and failed- to resist wearing my comfy blue cardigan with it. What can I say? When I find something I love, I wear the heck out of it!

Vintage Beads Necklace, West End Antiques; Zebra Shirt, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Flats, Family Thrift; Bag, Target; Cardigan, Goodwill
My hair is finally growing out a bit, so I've been trying different styles. This is my attempt at braids and a tiny ponytail :)

You also might notice the change in scenery- I decided to try doing my outfit photo where I take most of my thrifted item photos: our apartment balcony. With the hubby working every Saturday now, I think this set-up might be the easiest :)

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Blythe's Thrifted Outfit

Doll Hat; Paw-Print Romper; Both: Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
This week, Blythe's outfit reflects the changing of the seasons here in Richmond. It has been back-and-forth with the freezing temps and the warm days, but yesterday was warm enough for a romper and a spring-like hat.

The wind was super-strong, but only Blythe's hair got a little ruffled- there was no tumbling off the 2nd floor balcony :)

I hope you have a great weekend! I'm so glad to have a few days to relax :)

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Variation on a Theme

Weekends are the only days I don't wear a uniform. Actually, I take that back. I kind of do wear a uniform of sorts on weekends, like this past long weekend. My tasseled flats and my Target purse got worn throughout- I just changed up my jeans and shirt combos and my other accessories.

Here's Monday's look: (And yes, I am that pale!)

Beret, Plato's Closet; Shirt, Burlington Coat Factory Clearance; Jeans and Necklace, Goodwill; Ray Bans, Goodwill in Pensacola; Flats, Family Thrift; Purse, Target; Sweater, F21
It's strange now to think that the weekend was so warm! The past couple days have been freezing, with rain and flurries. Oh, Richmond weather. I think I'll be more of a fan when it's actually spring and stays in the 60s for awhile. :)

I hope you have a great weekend! I have a super busy day of work ahead of me, but then it's the weekend. :) I'll show you Blythe's thrifted outfit of the week tomorrow!

Amanda

Vintage Beads, A Love Story

The only thing I like better than finding something cool for two bucks at the antique mall is finding vintage wooden beads on a necklace for the same.

Vintage Wooden Bead Necklace, West End Antiques ($2)
I love this necklace because:
#1: It happens to be orange and blue.
#2: Chippy paint on wooden beads is awesome.
#3: It is a ready-made, go-to necklace in non-metal, which is surprisingly hard to find.

Okay, that's about all the brain cells I can use this morning, since I've got a super-busy couple of days of work to go until the weekend. Have a great day!

Amanda

Meet My New Guitar Love...

Resonator Guitar, eBay (gift from hubby)
Remember the beautiful resonator guitar that got away? Well, my absolutely wonderful hubby found me one of eBay for much, much less than that one!!! I am so in love with it! Everything sounds so great on a resonator guitar- it has a bit brighter, more electric, happy sound than regular guitars.

While this wasn't a thrift find, the hubby's great deal on it deserves some kudos, and I couldn't help but showing you guys something I'm so in love with. :)

Have a great Wednesday, everyone!!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Blue like your Eyes

Sunday was a pretty day for browsing around an estate sale and relaxing with the hubby. It was a day that just called for a bright, happy, blue sweater. And I have just the thing!

Vintage Sunglasses, Good Samaritan; Sailboat Print Shirt, F21; Jeans and Sweater, Goodwill; Tassel Flats, Family Thrift; Bag, Target; Shell Necklace, Diversity Thrift
Whenever I wear this color blue or an olive green, my eyes change to that color. It's kind of cool, but I always forget about it until a stranger comes up to me and mentions that my eyes match my shirt/sweater/outfit.

Of course, I had to wear sunglasses in the bright sun on Sunday, so you can't see my mutant eyes for yourself... Maybe next time I bust out 'ol Blue!

Amanda

Ultimate Treasure from the Goodwill Bins

Vintage Frye Campus Boots, Goodwill Outlet
When I got to Goodwill Outlet on Saturday, the bins of shoes were full like they'd just been brought out. But I only just managed to grab these nice looking leather boots just as they traded the bins for new ones. Then there was the usual stampede of people toward the new bins as I got away from there as quickly as possible!

Once I was out of the way of the craziness, I looked down at the boots and realized...they were vintage Frye campus boots!!!

I was freaking out to have found them in the reject bins that had already been gone through! Unfortunately though, they are size 9.5. I suppose I can try to wear really thick socks to make them fit, but they are just too big.

Anyone wear a size 9.5 who wants to do a trade of some sort? Let me know!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Rocking the Orange and Blue

Growing up, my parents and brother were huge Florida Gator fans. I was sort of indifferent. But if forced to choose between the Gators and FSU's Seminoles, I'd definitely pick my family's team.

Oh, not because they were such big fans, but because I liked the colors!

Striped Shirt, Good Samaritan; Jeans and Sweater, Goodwill; Ray Bans, Goodwill in Pensacola; Tassel Flats, Family Thrift; Bag, Target; Necklace, Goodwill Outlet
Don't orange and blue just go well together? Maybe its just my past self talking! I am definitely loving bright colors lately :)

As for the thrifting yesterday....ehhh. Not great in terms of the amount of things I found. But I managed one great buy that I'm excited to show you this week!

A Transition to Nighttime

Jacket, Goodwill; Bag, Target
This was last Sunday night's outfit- the same as day, but with my new bag and my thrifted peacoat added for a little more fanciness :)

I'm loving my new bag from Target- it's reminiscent of the Mulberry Alexa bag, but much more affordable! Cross-body bags are so easy to lug your life around with you :)

Well, I'm off to the thrifts! Wish me luck- hopefully I'll find some great things to show you all!

Blythe's Thrifted Outfit

Vintage Shirt as Jacket; Vintage Drop-Waist Dress; Both: Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
For today's Blythe's outfit picture was taken in front of my favorite vintage doctor's bag, which I scored at Goodwill Outlet for two bucks awhile ago. Fittingly, every piece of her outfit is also from G.O. :)

It's always a fun game searching out vintage doll clothes in the bins, and the day I found both of these was a major score!

I hope you all have a great Friday, and here's to hoping I thrift more this weekend!

Always,
Amanda

Vintage F-L-O-R-I-D-A

Vintage Florida Oranges Candle Holders, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
To give you an idea of last Saturday's sad little haul, the above vintage candle holders were about all I got!

Goodwill Outlet was packed full, and nothing great was to be had. I am glad I found these little guys, shown on the corner of our mantle. Vintage Florida kitsch is always a plus in my book :) (Can you tell I'm missing my home state just a bit?)

I hope you have a really great Thursday! It's almost the weekend, and I have Monday off too, so I'm double excited!!

Leaves of Gold

Since I pretty much came out empty-handed this past weekend, I've been digging around the apartment for finds I haven't shared yet. This golden leaf was a find from the last estate sale we went to- the same one we picked up the vintage Duncan yo-yos at!

Golden Leaf, Estate Sale ($3); Earrings, Simply Whispers ($7)
I'm using this pretty little leaf to hold my earrings! Hopefully soon I'll have more than just the couple pairs :)

When the lady at the estate sale rang me up, she mentioned that this leaf was something special- a certain brand or designer- which is why it was three bucks. I still thought it was a good deal for something so neat!

Have a great Wednesday!!!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Black and Blue

Sunday was busy for us, as we spent a couple hours at lunch with the hubby's newly engaged sister and her fiance and their families. Of course, we still made time for a little thrifting :)

Here's what I wore for our semi-fancy lunch and our day of thrifting (and guitar store browsing...)

Vintage Ray Bans, eBay; Shirt, Goodwill; Cardigan, gift from hubby's aunt; Jeans, Goodwill; Shoes, TJMaxx Clearance; Leather JCrew bag, Goodwill Outlet; Necklace, JCrew Warehouse Sale; Bow, F21
I really like this outfit :) I feel like it's very me- the collared shirt under the cardigan, with a pop of color!

The weather has been so perfect the past few days- I can't wait for more sunshine and cool breezes!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Army Green + Stripes

I had to work yesterday morning, and by the time I got out, it was warm and sunny outside! Such a beautiful day :)

I was tempted to just throw on a short-sleeved shirt with my capris, but it wasn't that warm... I was glad to be able to wear my newly thrifted army green wool cardigan, anyway:

Fendi Sunglasses, TJMaxx Super-Clearance ($20!); Striped Sweater, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Army Green Sweater, Goodwill; Belt, Goodwill Outlet; Necklace, Goodwill Outlet; Leopard Flats, Love of Jesus; Vintage Brahmin Bag, Myriad of Mischief Etsy
Two other new things I couldn't wait to use: my Fendi rose sunglasses I scored for super-cheap at TJMaxx, and the vintage Brahmin bag I got from Myriam's etsy shop! I must say, I love both, and I felt pretty classy with such fancy accessories!

I didn't find much on the thrift front yesterday, but I will have a couple things to show you this coming week :) And of course, there will be a new Blythe's Thrifted Outfit on Friday!

Have a great Sunday, everyone :)

Amanda

Pretend Glasses

Vintage Glasses, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

I know that pretty much all gals who actually wear glasses think they are annoying, but I've secretly always wanted to wear them! I was jealous of my friend Amber growing up, because she had awesome glasses and colorful braces!

Looking back, I'm glad I didn't have to go through the braces phase, but glasses still appeal to me. Anyway, this is just a long-winded explanation for my poser thrifted glasses shown above :)

I have to work this morning, but at about 12:20, it'll be the weekend!!! I'm so ready :)

Amanda

Blythe's Thrifted Outfit

So, I've finally come up with a new Friday series to replace Guy Finds Friday :)

My cute little Blythe doll will be my model for her thrifted clothes every Friday from now on! Here's her first outfit:

Vintage Plaid Dress; Vintage Plaid Sweater; Vintage Wool Coat; All: Goodwill Outlet (<$1)
The coat is a little big for Blythe, but I think it looks like a chic Snuggie :) I haven't been able to find many pairs of doll shoes for her, but I'm keeping a lookout! There are plenty more thrifted vintage outfits to share!

Amanda

Artsy Shells

Wall Art, Goodwill Outlet ($1)

I love finding fun wall art in the Goodwill bins! It's just about the cheapest way to get art that there is :)

I just liked this for it's look, and for the shells: it reminds me of Florida in a classy sort of way. The hubby says that the writing is the scientific and the Latin names for those shells. (It could say 'lalalala' and I'd still like it!)

I hope your week is going well :) Mine is going pretty fast, but I work Saturday morning. At least the next weekend will be a long one!

The Vintage Cowboy Boots of My Dreams!

My favorite find from this past Saturday, without a doubt, is my pair of vintage Laredo boots!

They are perfection- soft black leather, tassels, and my size!

Vintage Laredo Cowboy Boots, Good Samaritan ($5)
Five bucks is a small price to pay for something I've been searching for for years.

I found a pair about 6 years ago at a little thrift shop, but they were musty beyond repair. I also thrifted a pair of bright pink ones that I wore to the bone in college.

These are just what I've been looking for :)

Have a great Wednesday!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Blue, Baby

Sunday was a pretty laid-back day for the hubby and I. With him in school, Sundays are our one day to be together and for him to do his homework.

This week was no different- we went to Goodwill and Plato's Closet in the morning (where the hubby found things, and I didn't!), and then we came home to writing papers and blogging.

Baby Blue Jacket, Good Samaritan; Sweater and Scarf, Rugged Warehouse; Jeans, Goodwill; Shoes, Family Thrift; Fringed Leather Bag, Good Samaritan; Vintage Cameo Pins, 1 Gifted from Aunt Shelley and 1 Family Thrift
It was such a pretty day- but I forgot my sunglasses! This is the only outfit picture the hubby took for me where my eyes were open :)

As you can see from this and the last outfit post, I'm really loving my fringed leather flats! They totally remind me of the shoes my dad would wear to work when I was a kid :)

I hope your week is going well!

Amanda

Wocka Wocka Wocka

Vintage Fozzie Bear Mug, Good Samaritan ($0.75)
I found quite a few cool little things on Saturday, but the hubby's favorite by far is this Fozzie Bear mug! He ran right to it when he got home from work :) I couldn't pass this little guy up for a mere 75 cents.

Did you all grow up watching the Muppets? I am from the generation that grew up with Muppet Babies...my little brother and I watched it all the time.

I hope you have a great Monday :)

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Shopping My Closet

I was looking through my past outfit photos the other night, which led to me digging out some things I hadn't worn in awhile. Shopping your closet is a great idea- I forgot how much I love my navy blue pea coat, my vintage satchel bag, my button necklace, and my tassel flats!!!

Shirt, F21 (2009); Vintage Polyester Cardigan. Good Samaritan; Peacoat, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Tassel Flats, Family Thrift; Satchel, Goodwill Outlet; Button Necklace, Waterfront Rescue Mission; Music Note Earrings, Simply Whispers
Most everything I'm wearing is from the beginning of the blog- back in 2009! And I still really love them :)

On the new front...I managed to find a Web site called Simply Whispers that carries jewelry for those with metal allergies! They guarantee that their products won't have a negative reaction with even the most sensitive skin like mine. And guess what? They're right! I'm finally able to wear earrings again, and I'm so happy!

(This isn't an endorsed review by the way, I'm just that excited about it!)

I hope you have a great Sunday :)

Amanda

Midnight Special

1990s Duncan Yo-Yos, Estate Sale ($5)
Remember a couple weekends ago, when the hubby and I went to an estate sale? Well, I forgot to take pictures at the time, but I remembered to this past weekend!

Here are our favorite finds: two Duncan Yo-Yos, straight from our youth! I picked out the Midnight Special, and the hubby grabbed the Neo.

I remember when it was 'cool' to yo-yo...there was a guy in my middle school who would go to contests and everything! I was never that good, but these do bring back fun memories!

I'm off to the thrift stores this morning, although I've been suffering from an annoying sore throat. Hopefully a fun, relaxing weekend will be just the cure :)

Amanda

A Treasure Trove of Vintage Clothes!

Vintage Doll Clothes, Goodwill Outlet (about $0.50)
These (unfortunately miniature) vintage clothes are amazing! Most are handmade, with one or two being Ideal brand from the 60s :) And they are the perfect size for my Blythe doll!

I found these pretty little doll clothes spread out over a couple bins at Goodwill Outlet on Saturday, but they all seem to have been for the same doll. The handmade ones remind me of my mom, who had a Velvet doll that her aunt made clothes for when she was a kid.

Speaking of family, my poor hubby got in a car accident on Wednesday :( He's okay, but it's so much work getting everything with the insurance and his car taken care of. Such a bummer. But hopefully this weekend will be better!

Have a great Friday- TGIF!!

Amanda

My Valentine's Chair :)

I've gone on and on about the pretty vintage ice cream shop chair my hubby got me for Valentine's Day, so here, finally, it is:

Vintage Ice Cream Chair, Heritage Antiques ($20)

We got it for a steal! It was already priced low, and then it ended up being 20 percent off!

I love my little chair, which now has a heart-shaped pillow resting on it :)

I hope you all have a great day!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Primary Colors and Leopard Print

I feel like about half of my outfit photos recently have featured some sort of animal print! I guess that's what happens when you find the perfect flats, purse, shirt, and scarf in leopard and zebra :)

Shirt, Jeans, Vest, Necklace, all: Goodwill; Purse, gift from hubby; Converse, JCrew Warehouse Sale; Coat, Plato's Closet; Scarf, Target
This was Sunday's thrifting/antique store hunting outfit. AKA: When I found the chair love of my life, and the real love of my life got it for me!!!

Can I just say that I have the best husband ever? I really do :)

I'll definitely be showing you my new chair tomorrow!

Always,
Amanda

PS: Happy Birthday, Dad!!! Love and miss you!

Thrifty Blogger of the Month: Coury of Fancy Treehouse!

I can't even begin to say how much I love Coury's blog Fancy Treehouse! She has a very sweet-with-an-edge style that is always photographed beautifully :)

Although she is much more fond of dresses and skirts than I, her frequent use of flats (especially tasseled  ones!) is something I can definitely relate to. Her revolving collection of vintage and thrifty finds are what makes her perfect for this feature.

Everyone, meet the lovely Coury, Another's Treasure's Thrifty Blogger of the Month for February:
_____________________________________________________________

Coury's vintage polka-dot blazer and thrifted cashmere sweater are just right together :) Photo Courtesy of Fancy Treehouse (original post HERE)
Another's Treasure: When did you first start thrift shopping, and why did you begin?

Fancy Treehouse: I started about 10 years ago. Vintage clothes were starting to get popular and my sister and I found the Jet Rag dollar sale and started going every Sunday. I was hooked from then on.

AT: What do you consider your best thrifted find ever?

FTH: I have found some great stuff but I don't hold onto clothes for long so it's been sold.

AT: What would be the ultimate coolest thing to see for a dollar at the thrift store?

FTH: Hmm! A pair of perfect shoes or a dress with my exact measurements.

AT: Do you have any tips for finding great things while thrifting?

FTH: Just be patient and look for colors, textures, and patterns that catch your eye.

Thanks so much for the interview, Coury!

Everyone, be sure to check out Coury's blog Fancy Treehouse as well as her eBay shop!!
