My Thrifting Outfit: Faded Out(fit)

Although the outfit pictures I took yesterday turned out weird, I did like this (also strange) one:

Flannel, Salvation Army in NC; Jacket, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Socks, Dollar Tree; Loafers, Family Thrift; Dooney and Bourke Bag, Goodwill Outlet
I'm not sure why my face is so washed-out looking! Well, other than the fact that I'm pretty pale right now...

Anyway, I had pretty good luck thrifting yesterday, although I didn't find any of the main things I was looking for. With a budget of $15 total, I did find an iZone Polaroid camera and film, a label maker and label tape, a carpetbag purse, a bag of jewelry, a 1950s edition Beezus and Ramona book, a shirt for the hubby, and a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt for me.

So, not bad :) I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

What I'm Wanting: Chambray and Stripes!

The past couple thrift outings I've been on, I've kept a lookout for some spring-y shirts. Although I know that winter isn't over, after a survey of my closet, I realized I didn't have many warmer-weather clothing options! So, that is what I am searching for this weekend, specifically a chambray shirt and a red-and-white striped shirt like these:

Left, from this etsy shop; Right, from this one

It would be great if I found both! Because my payday isn't until Tuesday and the rent's due Monday, though, I have an even smaller budget than usual this Saturday. But that's the magic of thrift stores! I'm sure I can find all sorts of treasures, even for under $20 total!

Samsonite Love

It's been a little while since I gushed about how lovely Samsonite train cases are (and awhile since I bought one!). But, I did find a Samsonite carry-on bag on Saturday that I fell in love with :) So much so that I took out my Sharpie and wrote 'Love' to match the hearts of my first Samsonite carry-on bag:

Blue Samsonite Carry-On Bag, Salvation Army ($2)

It looks like they are in love, no? I honestly don't know what it is lately with my obsession over travel-type items. Perhaps I am dying to leave town and go on a long road trip around the country! Or, at least down to Florida to see my family and my friends that I'm missing so much.

Anyway, it's Friday! So that means thrifting tomorrow! Hope you all have a great one :)

Buckle Up

For quite a while now, I've seen brown bags with two buckles on some of my favorite blogs. I'd never seen one when I was out thrifting, though- until Saturday! The only good bag left in the purse bins at Goodwill Outlet was obviously waiting for me :)

Vegan Leather Bag, Goodwill Outlet ($2)

You can see that I am calling it 'vegan leather', as in, not the real thing. I just think that 'vegan leather' sounds so much nicer in every way than 'pleather'!

If I was still in college, I'd use this as a backpack daily. However, the post-grad-me is kind of dying to throw my magazines in it and have a day at the Florida beaches I grew up near. I guess I'll just have to wait until my Florida vacation in June!

Amanda

Play Hockey. Keep Teeth.

Probably my most favorite find from Saturday I haven't shown you all yet: my 1970s Ideal brand Hockey game!

I found this little gem at Love of Jesus, and since it didn't have a price on it, I was only charged $1! It's amazing, and all that was missing was the little ball it was supposed to come with. I found a bag of marbles at the antique store that same day for $1, and I was set!

Ideal Hockey Game, Love of Jesus ($1)

The only problem with this totally awesome, fooseball-type game? I happen to kind of stink at it! I have challenged the hubby to games every night since we got it, and I always lose. It's funny how competitive we get playing a silly little game, but it's intense. (Or, as intense as a little kid's toy from the 70s can be!)

I love it, though. I have a feeling it will be with us for some time. At least long enough for me to beat the hubby at just one darn game!

Have a great Wednesday :)

Amanda

Pinned

You know when you're out thrifting, and you seem to find a bunch of one type of thing? Well, that happened to me this past weekend. I found a bunch of vintage pins, which brought back memories of middle school backpacks decorated with them :) To top it off, the ones I found were quite humorous!

My favorite? 'Cuddle up with a dancer'! Is it meant to be innocent or not-so-much? We'll never know! The 'go fly a kite' one is a close second, and you can find it in the Another's Treasure etsy shop here.

I hope that everyone is having a great week so far! Oh, and thanks for the emails with thrifting questions- I love to answer them and they totally make my day!

An Estate Sale Adventure

Yesterday, the hubby and I slept in until 10 o'clock (pretty late for us!), and relaxed all morning. It was so nice :) I decided to check if there were any estate sales going on, and there happened to be one pretty close to our place, so we got ready and headed over there.

To our surprise, when we got there about 5 minutes before the doors opened, there was a huge line! We're talking about 50 people, and this was the third day of the sale! We decided to go in anyway, and I'm glad we did. Inside, we found a cool stuffed globe and an elephant glass box, and in the garage I found awesome Foster Grant aviators and some cool signs!

Stuffed Globe ($2); Foster Grant Aviators ($1); Route 66 Sign ($1); Glass Box ($2); All: Estate Sale

Afterwards, we drove around and then had dinner at Texas De Brazil- yum! When we were there, I realized I hadn't taken a shot of my outfit yet-and I was even sporting Big Mustard! So, I sneaked a quick shot in one of their tall mirrors :)

It was pretty warm again yesterday, so a short-sleeved shirt with my favorite cardie was all I needed to keep cozy!

I don't know why, but every time I wear Big Mustard, I feel like I look like a weirdo! When I come home and look at the photos of it, though, it works :)

The mustard color is what really makes me love it- it seems to just go with everything I have in my closet! I know it'll get a lot of wear once spring is here and there's no more need for a jacket :)

I hope everyone's weekend was great, and have a happy Monday!

Outfit: Thrifted Big Mustard Cardie; Thrifted Pink Polka Dot Shirt; Thrifted Jeans; Thrifted Bag; Thrifted Dexter Shoes; Pin From Aunt Shelley For Christmas

My Thrifting Outfit: Warm(ish) Winter!

I totally loved the weather yesterday! It was sunny and 52 degrees and absolutely beautiful :) I threw on my peacoat with a funny t-shirt with bears playing guitar hero, and jeans, and I was comfy and warm. I was feeling the purple accessories yesterday, too- with a purple beaded necklace and my new purple bag. I got the vintage Dexter shoes while thrifting yesterday! Everything I wore was thrifted (as per usual). :)

I found a bunch of cool things too- including a Sega Dreamcast for the hubby that he's fixing up right now. I'll be sure to show you all the great new goods this week :)

I hope that everyone has a great Sunday!

Amanda

What I'm Wanting: For Spring!

A little groundhog's shadow decided that it's still winter for awhile, but I'm going to have to pass on accepting that :) With weather upwards of 50 degrees (Yessss!) this weekend, let's pretend that spring's right around the corner.

I am super-stocked-up on long-sleeves and cardigans for the transition to warmer months, but I am lacking a couple things to get me through until summer. Today's thrift search includes: a collection of awesome t-shirts, spring-y florals, and a short-sleeve cardie like this one from etsy:

Can't you just imagine how wonderful it will be to skip along in the warm sunshine, with a straw hat on your head and a cute, short-sleeved cardie on? Well, I can! And that's exactly what I plan on doing- just as soon as all the snow melts!

Always,
Amanda

PS: Please excuse the frequent layout changes! I would love to have a pretty 3-column layout, but I am sorely lacking in HTML skills. I do plan on keeping the current header for a long while, though :)

The New Four Dollar Love of My Life

After work yesterday, I decided to pop into the local Goodwill to see if I would have any luck. (It's pretty hit-or-miss.) I didn't see anything I wanted at first, but when I was glancing at the purse wall, I saw a pretty purple strap near the back.

When I grabbed it, it was the most perfect, buttery leather purse of all time! Even nicer than my thrifted Dooney and Bourke bags! For a whole $4, I got this beauty:

When I got home, I googled the brand, B. Makowsky, and it turns out that these bags cost up to $340 dollars! Oh, my! (Can you tell I am absolutely in love with this bag?)

Anyway...happy Friday everyone! I can't wait to go thrifting tomorrow :) Who knows what treasures are in store.

Always,
Amanda

PS: If you ever have any questions for me or are looking for something that you think I can find for you, let me know! I love getting emails from readers- it really makes my day :) Email me at: isanotherstreasure@hotmail.com

Flowers in the Snow

Is anyone else waiting and hoping for spring to come? It needs to come as soon as possible, thank you! Maybe it's just this crazy, snowy weather we've been having, but I am going to dance for joy when it's 65 and sunny outside!

Lately, I've been picking up little things that remind me of spring, like the outfit from the other day (trench and floral shirt and rain shoes). When I saw this cute little sunglasses holder at Goodwill Outlet, it easily made it's way into my basket :)

A sign that it is still, unfortunately, winter? I took this picture on a huge pile of snow which has turned into rock-solid ice in our parking lot. Yup. Apparantly, that's how we roll here in Richmond, Virginia.

Thanks for cheering me up yesterday! It always makes me smile to read your comments, and I am so thankful for each and every one of you that reads this little blog :)

Have a good one!

I Get a Kick Out of You!

On Monday, the hubby and I went on a little adventure and ended up at an antique store about 30 minutes away from us called Smashapenny! Seriously! And it lived up to it's great name, too.

Full to the brim with treasures, including a really cool Woodstock Music and Art Fair pin, a box of random vintage treasures, and this awesome vintage shoe printing plate:

Isn't it fantastic? I had the hardest time choosing which shoe to pick, as there were eight or so. But this was the shoe I most likely would wear daily. I love the tassels, the shape, the soft brown color...

I'm not really sure what to do with it, though! Right now, it's perched on my desk by my little glass dog. It sure is pretty to look at :) For $4, I couldn't pass it up!

Do you have any ideas for it? Hope you all have a great week!

Always,
Amanda

PS: I had a really bad day yesterday, so it would be amazing if you all could comment and cheer me up! You're the best!

Not Even Creepy-Cool. Creepy-Awesome!

It's been a couple days, but I had to make sure that my Creepy Crawlers maker worked before I did a post on it! And oh. my. gosh. It's awesome :)

I was at Goodwill Outlet Saturday, with all the crazies, and they were putting out new boxes of misc. stuff. I managed to nudge my way into the crowd and waited for something to catch my eye. That's when the lady next to me picked up a Creepy Crawlers box! I held my breath as she contemplated buying it...and about three seconds after she put it down, it was mine :)

When I got out of the crowd and looked in the box, it was a complete set! Even the plasti-goop is in there! (Can you tell I'm excited about this?)

Anyway...here's my treasure, to which I added a 1964 tray to yesterday. It works, and it's just so much fun!

Creepy Crawlers Set, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

I also added some new things to the shop, including a bakelite-handled corkscrew :)

A Snowman and a Peacoat

Yesterday, the hubby was supposed to work a 12-hour shift. Yup, on Valentine's Day. No biggie, though, since we were just going to celebrate today. But my poor hubby pulled a muscle in his back at work and was home and on muscle relaxers by noon! Poor thing!

When he called, I was at an estate sale, were I found a neat old hat for a dollar and then came home to make sure he was okay.

Old Straw Hat, Estate Sale ($1)

By dinner time, he was feeling good enough to go out, so we went to Long Horn for dinner and then to Goodwill. In addition to the chocolates and roses he got me for Valentine's Day, he said I could pick out whatever I wanted! (Sounds pretty sad, but for me, this was awesome!!!)

I found this great Old Navy peacoat, which I absolutely love :) When we got home, I took a couple pictures with 'ol Mr. Snowman and called it a night. All in all, a pretty great Valentine's!

Shirt, Goodwill; Peacoat, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Shoes, Goodwill Outlet

Hope you all had a great Valentine's Day!! And happy President's Day, too!

My Thrifting Outfit: Featuring New Finds!

I worked yesterday morning, and then quickly changed and drove out to my favorite thrifts. Of course, I forgot to take pictures beforehand of my outfit (which was admittedly pretty boring...).

So I figured that when I got home, I'd change into my newly thrifted clothes and take some shots right before the sun went down!

Floral Shirt, Goodwill Outlet; Trench Coat, Good Samaritan; Jeans, Goodwill; Socks, Dollar Tree; Bass Duck Shoes, Love of Jesus; Sunglasses, Love of Jesus

Everything I'm wearing here, except the jeans and socks, were found today! While I didn't find my oxfords (I will look 'till I find them, of course!) I found something else on my 'want' list: duck shoes :) You wouldn't believe how expensive these are- even on etsy and eBay!

I found these perfect Bass brand (my maiden name :)) shoes at Love of Jesus for a mere $3. They're waterproof, so they're great for now in the melting snow and later in the spring rain. And the sunnies? Pure granny-type awesome. And they stay on my little nose, which is a feat in itself!

The trench was a neat find at Good Samaritan- they only charged me $2 for it, and it's in great condition. Although, it is a little cold outside to be sporting it right now.

Lastly, the floral shirt was one of those 'oh...I'm at Goodwill Outlet, so it'll be less than $1...I'll grab it' things. But I really like it! I think it'll get a lot of wear once it warms up a little :)

I found other great things that I can't wait to show you all! (Original Creepy Crawlers set anyone?!?)

Always,
Amanda

PPS: Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

What I'm Wanting: Oxfords!

I have to work this morning, but you can bet I'll be at my favorite thrifts this afternoon! The main thing I'm looking for is a cute pair of oxfords. I've found a couple pair I like on etsy, but none in my size. These are the closest to what I'm looking for:

from this etsy listing

I like that they're two-toned and flat, but I'd settle for any cute pair of oxfords! Of course, I'll probably find other great things instead, but it doesn't hurt to look :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Amanda

A Scarf With Prints; An Elephant

I found all sorts of great things on Wednesday, including some that fall in the 'random' category. (I am definitely drawn to the random!) While most of my finds I am passing on to other homes via the etsy shop, there are a couple things I just can't part with yet.

One of these is a made in Japan glass elephant. He's a cute little guy with pink ears and a grey body. Come to think of it, I really like pink and grey together :) Anyway...

I also found a really neat printed scarf with great colors that I can't wait to incorporate into an outfit.

Japan Elephant, Love of Jesus ($1); Scarf, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

I have a feeling this scarf will definitely be paired with big mustard pretty soon! I'm sad that it's been too cold to wear my ever-growing cardigan collection outside without a jacket. Here's to hoping that spring comes soon- with no more snow and 60 degree, cardigan-perfect weather!!! Happy Friday, everyone :)

Outlet and Outfit :)

While it did snow yesterday morning, by 2:15 when I got off work, the sun was out and thrifting was on :) My awesome hubby and I headed out Goodwill Outlet, Love of Jesus, and Family Thrift. They weren't as crowded as usual- probably due to the morning's snow and the fact that it was Wednesday- and I came away with plenty of great things!

But first, what I wore:

Vintage Cashmere Jacket, The Vintage Store; Pendleton Shirt, Goodwill Outlet; Black T, Goodwill Outlet; Jeans, Goodwill; Boots, UO last year; Squinting eyes, thanks to the sun! (Please ignore the fact that I forgot to wear sunglasses!)

And here are some of my favorite things I got at Goodwill Outlet:

Vintage Viewmaster and Slides; 80s Ski Goggles; Carpetbags of America Bag; Awesome Green Sneakers

Awesome, right? I also got some great things for the shop, which will be up later today :) Hope your Thursday is an awesome one!

Blue and Green Should Be Friends

As long as I can remember, my favorite colors have been green and blue. I love them together! So naturally, I am drawn to greenish-blue things when I'm out thrifting. Imagine my delight when I found these awesome bookends! And these brand-new Target slippers!

Bookends, Goodwill ($2); Slippers, Goodwill ($2)

It's funny, because when the hubby and I went to North Carolina for Christmas, we went to a gem mine. And the little gift shop had bookends just like these for $40! Of course I had to snatch these up for $2 :)

What are your favorite colors together? Do you find yourself thrifting items in those combos? I'm interested to know if I'm the only one!

Raining Cats and Dogs

So, it's supposed to snow again today, and then rain. Boo. But let's not talk any more about that! Let's talk about some more cool finds from Sunday :)

My dog back home at my parent's house (miss you, Rosco!) has been sick :( And every little dog figurine I find reminds me of how much I want to go to Florida and give him a big hug! One little glass dog I found Sunday I just couldn't pass up.

This sweet dog was a mere $2 at Heritage Antiques, and he seriously reminds me of Rosco! I think it's the way he's lying down, with his feet crossed. Now this miniature Ros is sitting on my desk with me :)

And, if you know me well, you know I am not a cat person. At all. But there are a couple cats I do like (hi Ace!), and sometimes something cat-related draws me in. Such is the case with little cross-stiched "Pippin".

He was found at Goodwill for $1.25, and looks so cute hanging over my desk :)

Although the hubby and I don't yet have a cat or dog to call our own, we do have little reminders of our furry friends hanging around. And who knows? Maybe someday soon it'll rain a real cat or (most likely) dog!

Have a good one!

Amanda

What I Found: Bakelite and Bows!

The hubby and I were (thankfully!) able to dig my car out of the snow yesterday morning and get out of the apartment for the day :) After a hardy breakfast at Waffle House, we set off to Goodwill, West End Antiques, Heritage Antiques, and The Vintage Store in Carytown. (Basically all the cool places that were open!)

I found some lovely things, including lots of little treasures, a little glass dog that reminds me of my dog back home, cool pins, geode bookends, a tiny set of drawers for tiny treasures, and these three things, my favorites of the day:

Large Polka-Dot Bowtie, The Vintage Store ; Super-Awesome Leather Lace-Up Shoes, Goodwill; Yellow Bakelite Bracelet, West End Antiques

It was so nice to get out and thrift again, although I certainly can't wait to get out to Goodwill Outlet! I made the mistake of calling them Saturday, just to see if they were open during the snowstorm. They were. Of course, there was no way I could get there! Oh well. It will just be that much more exciting when I get to go this coming weekend :)

I found a bunch more cool things that I can't wait to show you all, so stay tuned for more treasures!

DIY Quilt Patch

This weekend, I've had plenty of time to catch up on various projects I've been meaning to get to. One of these is patching the one little burn hole in my $12 Goodwill Outlet quilt.

I knew that I wanted to use a piece of an old shirt or sweater to mend it, and I found the perfect thing in a thrifted Christmas sweater! I just cut a piece into a heart and hand-sewed it on. Check it out:

Done! I like that it's a little imperfect and homemade looking. A sweet little patch, and when I want to change it, I can just cut the stitches out and try another design :)

Love Forever

I had this whole post written out, and it sounded so dreary and down. So I am starting over! So what if it's snowing and I can't go to my fave thrifts yet again? So what if I'll probably be stuck in my apartment all weekend again? I'm going to be positive about it, darnit!

So, on a positive note, here's what I have been wearing daily and loving to death:

Love Forever Locket, Good Samaritan Thrift (in $1 bag of jewelry); Silk cord, etsy (about $2 for 5)

I love this locket! The coolest thing about it is that the 'Love Forever' looks just like my cursive :) I can't wait to put little pics of the hubby in it. When I'm feeling down about the weather, I just look at this sweet little thing, and I can't help but crack a smile.

Etsy Favorites and Bad Weather

It's Friday! On one hand, I'm happy, but on the other hand, the weather is awful again. Like, close-the-thrift-stores-and-roads awful. And thanks to something popping up at the last minute last night, I didn't even get in a local Goodwill run :( So I am going a little crazy not being able to just go to my favorite thrifts. Of course, they were open this week, but I had to work every day.

Yuck. Anyway......

I've been adding so many neat things to my etsy favorites lately! Anything in my favorites list below would make a perfect Valentine's Day gift...as least for a quirky gal like me! (Hint, hint, hubby...)

You Hold the Sun in Your Arms

With a severe need (okay, want!) to go to my favorite thrifts, I am running on empty of both cool things to show you all and ideas.

So I decided to go through the photos I've taken and share a find that didn't make the blog. A practical but pretty something that I love: my sunglasses holder pin!

This little guy has shown up in an outfit post or two, but it's hard to see in pictures. What a brilliant, simple invention!

The best part is that I got it from Good Samaritan, so it was less than $1!

Which, honestly, is just making me think about how much I want to go thrifting this weekend, instead of being stuck in the apartment, snow-bound.

But the good news is that it might just be a wintry mix/ rain! And that I can definitely deal with :)

I hope you're having a great week!

I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night...

I couldn't help the corny title, sorry! The hubby and I went to the local Goodwill after I got off of work Monday night, and I found this awesome pillow cover:

Pillow Cover, Goodwill ($0.99)

It's so cute! And it's fitting for the hubby and I, as he plays electric guitar and I play acoustic :) You can bet this will be on our thrifted black leather chair for a long time! (I had to take the photo of it on our balcony, because the lighting's better! :)

I also found a great straw Panama Jack hat that will come in handy when the hubby and I go to the beach this summer. Although, the Goodwill lady did look at me funny when I bought it, since there's a foot of snow outside! It reminded me of those KMart layaway commercials, where's she's getting summer things with snow still on the ground...

Anyway. On a sad note, it looks like there will be more snow this coming weekend :( So I might be snowed in and miss my favorite thrifts again. So, here's to hoping the weatherpeople are wrong this time! (Aren't weatherpeople known for being wrong?)

Have a good one, everyone!

Amanda

The Most Perfect Backpack!

When I went to my local Goodwill on Thursday night (knowing I couldn't go to Goodwill Outlet the coming Saturday due to snow!), I found the most perfect leather backpack!

It was hanging up with the purses, but it stood out from the others with it's nice quality :) The little zippers had 'APC' on them, and when I Googled the company, I found out that this is an $80 bag! Score!

I took it when I trekked to the Lowe's and Kroger on Sunday, and it was the perfect size- with padded straps, even! I wish I could use it every day instead of a purse, but since I work at a credit union, that might not be the best idea! Could you imagine me, waltzing into a workplace that contains money with a backpack!?!

Anyway...I just had to share :) I hope your week is going by quickly! Only a couple more days until Goodwill Outlet :)

Always,
Amanda

My Snowed-In Outfit: Day Two

Well, I am thankful to say that yesterday was a LOT better outside than Saturday was! Although, yes, there was tons of snow on the ground, some of it was plowed and it was sunny!

Ahhh. Nothing brightens the spirit like a sunny day! It was so nice outside that I layered up- including two layers of socks- and walked to the Kroger and the Lowe's down the street. I bought a handy snow shovel at Lowe's and some yummy caramel hot chocolate and a bottle of water at Kroger, and then walked back and dug out the hubby's car for him.

Man, I got so much exercise :)

Here's a small glimpse of what I wore:

Thrifted Hat, Thrifted Sunnies, Thrifted Jacket, Thrifted Scarf, Thrifted Leather Backpack, Thrifted Jeans, Dollar Tree Socks, Thrifted Boots

And remember the road from yesterday's post that looked like Narnia? Sunday it looked like this:

Ahhh. Much better! Now, if the roads could just be completely clear, and the week could go by super-fast so I can go thrifting Saturday!!!!

Always,
Amanda
