Last Weekend/ This Weekend

I am still here, in the apartment. Snow is still outside. No thrift stores are open. I have no car, and no ability to drive in a foot of snow anyway. What to do, what to do?

Well, what I'm doing is thinking about how last weekend, it looked like this outside our apartment:

And how now, it looks like Richmond is gone- and Narnia has come! (Pictured is an actual road outside of our apartment building, which I walked far enough to photograph and then promptly ran back to the warm apt.)

I don't know about you all, but I think I prefer the sun!!! How to tie this in with thrifting??? Hmmm. Oh yeah, I measured the snow about mid-afternoon yesterday, when it wasn't even close to stopping yet, with my thrifted triangular ruler! (Goodwill Outlet, <$1)

Hope everyone is staying warm! (I know I'm staying inside today, reading my favorite blogs, shopping on etsy and ebay, and doing a little bit of cleaning :)

My Snowed-In Outfit

Usually on Saturdays or Sundays (or both!) I post my thrifting outfit. Although I don't consider myself a fashionista or anything, I like to show how easy it is to pair completely acceptable outfits from mostly thrifted finds :)

Of course, being snowed in and unable to go to my favorite thrifts (boo!), I did the next best thing. I threw on layers and layers of warm clothes, my faux fur jacket (which on the reversible side is waterproof), my new thrifted hat, my thrifted cashmere scarf, and my thrifted boots, and took a little walk around our apartment parking lot.

Man, snow can be annoying, but when it's still falling and fresh, it is pretty. (This is me trying not to whine about being stuck here all weekend, without even a place open to walk to!)

Anyway. Here's what I wore:

I tried to take a full outfit shot by precariously balancing my little point-and-shoot on a tree limb, but that didn't work out as planned. I did attempt to take a shot of the bottom half of my outfit, though:

You can sort of see my wool fox cardigan I got on etsy and my "new" pair of thrifted Old Navy jeans from Goodwill.

The cool thing is that my cardie and jeans stayed relatively dry in this whole process :)

When I went outside a second time, a couple hours later, there was much more snow, and it felt a lot colder! I had taken my hair down, and I quickly learned that hair should be up in a hat when it snows!

Man, was it a lot simpler living in Florida! There's hot weather, not-as-hot weather, and kind-of-cold-but-not-snowing weather. Here, it's just craziness! I doubt I'll be leaving the apartment again until Monday, not that there's anywhere to go...

How is your weekend going?

Always,
Amanda

New Obsession: Vintage Barrettes!

I first fell in love with vintage barrettes when I found my little airplanes at Heritage Antiques a little while ago.

They are just so lovely- and much more sturdy than the dollar store ones of today. Since then, I've found some on etsy (the little stars ones pictured) and trio of yellow ones at another trip to Heritage Antiques yesterday evening.

I am busy collecting even more on etsy, and I will be sure to show you them once they come! (One says 'Friday' on it! So cute!)

So, it is supposed to snow all day today here in Richmond. And the hubby works all weekend at the hospital (he's a nurse tech), so I am stuck here in the apartment by myself with nowhere to go :(

I have a bunch of stuff that I should do...like clean the apartment, organize my closet, etc. What I'll probably end up doing is reading fun blogs and listing tons of stuff in the shop and stomping around a bit in the snow to get rid of my cabin fever.

In any case, I would appreciate any emails (isanotherstreasure@hotmail.com) or comments you could send this way! If I haven't said it lately, thank you so much for choosing to read Another's Treasure :) I hope you know how much I appreciate each and every one of you!

Russian Hat Friday

This isn't going to be a weekly deal...as I only have one fuzzy Russian-like hat, which I picked up yesterday from my local Goodwill!

It was quite funny how I ended up with 'ol Russian... I had found this awesome hat in the hat bin (99 cents!) and tried it on. And this random lady comes up to me and says, "Wow. Is that vintage?"  and reaches over and pats my head! I say, "Um, I think so. Not really old, but probably a couple decades old."

She doesn't move! Hovering over me like she wants to snatch the hat off of my head, she says that she's been looking for something just like it.

Well, lady, so have I!

So here is my hard-won Russian-like faux fur hat in all it's glory:

I liked this picture best in sepia tone, because it makes me feel more 'vintage Russian.' Or something.

So, yeah. Weather.com is calling for snow starting this evening and going all day Saturday, so I might be snowed in all weekend. I've come to terms with missing my thrift day, since I found this hat and other neat things at the local Goodwill after work last night. But I still am sad to be missing Goodwill Outlet tomorrow. Anyone have a snowmobile I can borrow?

Milky Glass Mustache

Last Sunday, as I went on a thrifting/estate sale/vintage store spree with my mom-in-law and sis-in-law, I found some really great things!

But by far the most out-of-the-ordinary-cool is this hefty mug:

Mustache Mug, Goodwill ($1.50)

So strange, right? I love it! I do feel as though the 'facial hair' should be higher up on the mug, to make it more realistic looking :)

Oh, and I also found this 1966 Barbie- she has real eyelashes!!!

Vintage Barbie, Estate Sale ($1)

So, enough of my creepy-cool Sunday items. Here's to hoping it doesn't snow this weekend, which would prevent me from more thrifting adventures!

A Bag of Treasure!

Have you ever gone into a thrift shop and found a little mag marked 'broken jewelry'? I do all the time. Usually, these bags are priced way too high for my taste (ie: more than $1!) and I don't buy them.

But something about the little bags of $1 broken jewelry at Good Samaritan last Saturday caught my eye. They were the right price, and I could get one for me and one for my sis-in-law Ashley, who makes jewelry.

When I got to my in-laws that night and looked through the goods, I found some really neat things! Tiny cameos, charms, pins, and the cutest little locket ever.

The heart locket is my favorite, and I already have it around my neck, waiting to find the perfect little picture of my hubby for it.

Here's some more of my bag's 'jewels':

Ahhh. Nothing like finding $1 bags full of real treasure :) There were barely any broken pieces at all!

Glass-less Glasses

When I was younger, I had a friend who wore glasses. I thought they were so cool! But my eyesight is better than 20/20, so no real glasses for me, even now.

But who says you need glass in your glasses? I found these awesome vintage frames at West End Antiques for $4, and I couldn't wait to wear them around and feel very studious :)

Hope everyone's week is going well- it's almost halfway till the weekend!

Hubby's Thrifting Outfit: Saturday

I was so excited when I picked up a vintage Sears, Roebuck and Co. short-sleeve button-up for the hubby at Goodwill! I was tempted to keep it myself, but it looks so cute on him that I let him have it. He wore it Saturday, so I thought I'd take a picture and inject a little guy style into the blog. Enjoy :)

Maroon Hoodie and Jeans, Khols; Vintage Sears, Roebuck and Co. Shirt, Goodwill

I  loved turning the camera on him for once! He always takes my outfit shots when he's not working (which is pretty much every time you see decent outfit shots on this blog!), so it was fun making him laugh for the camera. This next photo was taken when I was lying on the grass looking up at him :)

It was such a beautiful day on Saturday! Looking at these pictures, I find myself longing for that perfect weather again. It has been grey and gloomy for the past two days, and it might even snow this weekend. I have found that, being from Florida, I am not a fan of lots of snow. A little bit is great, though!

So here's to hoping your Tuesday is going well, and that pretty weather is in our future!

New Obsession: Vintage Dice

I am really loving vintage dice. I think it started with my newfound love of bakelite items. Old dice are so neat- they seem so solid compared to the light plastic ones of today. I found some at Goodwill Outlet, and then a couple pair at Midlothian Antiques on Saturday. Here are the M.A. ones, such cool colors:

The little tiny wooden one somehow ended up in my bag there too- I think it was 50 cents. Who knows how old it is.

I hope that everyone has a great Monday. I got some really exciting things this weekend, so those will be coming up throughout the week!

What I Found: My Favorites

I was really lucky and found some Justin boots-the perfect ones- yesterday. Unfortunately, they are one size too small :( I got them anyway, thinking I could sell them on eBay to help me get some in my size! Here are my favorite things that I get to keep:

Pink Thermos, Goodwill Outlet; 'Thou Shalt Not Whine' Cross Stitch, Goodwill Outlet

Vintage LIFE and Vintage Comic Book; Love of Jesus

Vintage Cameras, Goodwill Outlet and Love of Jesus

Awesome, right? And I've got some great little things that are just about ready for the etsy shop, so check back soon!!!

My Thrifting Outfit: Sunshine Day

Don't you love it when the sun comes out and the sky is blue? It's so uplifting- especially after a couple really rainy, icky days! The hubby and I had some fun with the photos today :)

Sunnies, Goodwill Outlet; Lacoste Sweater, Goodwill Outlet; Blue Vest, Forever 21; Cardie, Goodwill Outlet; Jeans, Goodwill; Lace-Up Flats, Goodwill Outlet; Dooney & Bourke Bag, Goodwill Outlet

I just realized as I was typing out where my outfit came from, it was pretty much all Goodwill Outlet. :) Awesome. Oh, and here's my favorite photo of the day:

The hubby is such a good photographer! I was like, "Hey, I'm gonna lay down in the grass for some pictures." And he got my vision right away! Just look at the tree reflected in my sunnies!

What a great day :) Now, we're off to church and then spending the night with the in-laws. Hope everyone's weekend is going great!

Always,
Amanda

Like Christmas!

It's funny. Even though I go thrifting at my favorites every Saturday, I still get excited butterflies in my stomach the night before! In a way, it's like Christmas morning- you don't know what you'll find waiting for you :) I am super-excited today, as usual, to be off to my thrifting destinations.

We're staying the night at the hubby's parents tonight, but I'll be sure to bring the baby computer so I can post what I've found and what I am wearing.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway! The offer still stands for discounted goodies- convo me and I'll adjust the price of any item by $2, and the $1 items will be 50 cents! Hopefully I'll have this weekend's finds in the shop by Sunday evening, so keep a look out :)

Happy weekend!

Hannah S.!

Congrats! Email me your address at isanotherstreasure@hotmail.com asap so I can send you your owl purse and your bird pin and hankie :)

And for everyone else...if your favorite goodie is still in the shop, have at it! If you convo me before you purchase it, I will edit the item to reflect a $2 discount! (If you'd like a $1 item, I'll give it to you for 50 cents!)

Thanks again, everyone!

My Recent Etsy Finds :)

The other night, I went a little crazy and purchased about a third of the items in my Favorites on etsy. Who can blame a girl? Everything was so great and perfect and I'd looked for similar items while I thrifted, with no luck.

So, there. Those are my shopping spree excuses. (Although I didn't even spend over $40 total :) I haven't gone completely mad!)

Curl Pins (Picture and Pins From Here)

Vintage Pin (From Here)

Fox Cardie (Found Here)

And some vintage barrettes, dice, and Valentine's Day card for the hubby :) I hope everyone has a great Friday- the weekend's just around the corner! Hopefully it will be warm enough to wear the outfit I've picked out for tomorrow...

Amanda

Picture This

Man, I love having a mantle. It's such an adult word- 'mantle.' Anyway. So, I took down the Christmas decorations and decided on a new setup with my little camera collection. As you can see, I am a huge fan of Polaroids! I got 4 packs of 10 on eBay the other night, so I'll have to see if they actually work when they get here :) I'll let you all know, of course!

In other news, my beautiful new computer decided to randomly bite the dust yesterday morning. Ugh. My favorite co-worker (and good friend) told me that maybe my bad luck with computers has to do with the magnetic force in my fingers! I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

So, I'm stuck using the hubby's baby computer until the Best Buy people can fix it (under warranty! knew that was a good idea!).

Tomorrow's the last day to enter the giveaway! Seriously, people, sign up! Who doesn't like free things? And I just know there's something in the shop for everyone :)

Have a good one- the weekend's drawing near!

Amanda

I'm Sort of Caving on Antique Stores...

So, I've always been more of a fan of thrift stores than antique stores. But, I'm slowly caving, caving, caving. You see, before I was approaching antique stores all wrong. I was looking- and balking at- the crazy prices of the large items, and not seeing the little things.

When I went to Heritage Antiques last Sunday I finally got it. One of the owners was ringing me up, and she was like, "I always like to see what you find! Always great little things!"

Here's what I got:

Naval Bag Layout Postcard, $1; Two Airplane Clips, $1; Vintage Die, $0.50; JC Pin, $1 (All Heritage Antiques)

Have a great Wednesday- and remember to enter the giveaway! :)

My Thrifting Outfit: Learning to Cape!

Yesterday, I had the day off from work, and I convinced my (wonderful) hubby to bring me to Midlothian Antiques and then to see The Lovely Bones. (I thought it was pretty good! Not quite as good as the book, but are they ever?)

Anyway, since the hubby was with me, I got some much better photos! It was such a pretty day, and I couldn't wait to take this new eBay coat for a spin :)

Vintage 60s Cape, eBay ($17); Sweater under cape, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Shoes, Goodwill

Oh, and my new favorite hair accessory, from Heritage Antiques ($1):

(Yes, Mom. I know I need to get my eyebrows waxed. Lol.)

So, it was a really great day off, with warmer weather, sun, and time with my hubby! Hope you all have a great Tuesday. Oh, and remember to enter the giveaway on the giveaway post! :)

You're My Pink Rose

I think I mentioned before that my husband and I first dated when we were very young- 13 and 14! And from the very start, the special flowers that he always got me were pink roses. I never had a favorite flower before then, but you can bet that to this day I love pink roses.

So when I was at Goodwill Outlet Saturday (with the crazies! again!), and I saw this little mug discarded in the bins, I snatched it up. Because I'll always be his pink rose, and according to this mug, pink roses mean love.

Happy Monday :)

Amanda

My Favorite Things: From Saturday

I had better luck yesterday than Thursday. Maybe Thursdays just aren't made for thrifting? Anyway...I found some really neat things for the etsy shop, so check those out :)

My favorite things for me:

Polaroid Land Camera, Love of Jesus ($1)

We've got a little Kodak/Polaroid collection on our mantle right now that looks pretty neat. I should show you all...(this is me making a mental note to do so!)

Vintage Carpetbags of America Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($2)

I must be the only person at my Goodwill Outlet that thinks these old bags are awesome. 'Cause they are always strewn about in the misc. bins on top of broken toys and ugly Christmas stuff! This is my second COA bag and they are both so special!

Handmade Quilt, Goodwill Outlet ($12)

Oh my. When I saw this quilt with it's seafoam green-ness and the white detailing, I couldn't look away. It caught my eye when I was already in line at Goodwill Outlet, and I just had to go get it. I'm pretty sure that the quilts are the most expensive things at my G.O.- even more than the furniture!

When I got home, I discovered that is in perfect condition, except for a small burn hole in the middle. I'm thinking of making a little heart-shape patch to sew on it. Or maybe my initials, something like that. I'll be sure to take photos when I decide what to do.

So, yeah. I hope everyone has a fantastic long weekend! I know I am already enjoying mine :)

Amanda

Did Someone Call A Doctor?

I've been searching for a vintage doctor's bag for ages. Don't get me wrong, I find them all the time- in antique stores, and for $50 more than I'd like to pay!

When I found this beautiful old doctor's bag just sitting in the purse bin at Goodwill Outlet, I couldn't believe it! I hardly found anything else on Thursday, but that almost didn't matter because of my awesome find :)

Vintage Doctor's Bag, Goodwill Outlet ($2)

This was pretty much the only thing I found for me on Thursday. I did get a couple things for the shop, including a vintage fur hat that already sold, and these:

Both are up in the shop now, if you're interested! I decided that I'm going to go back to the thrift stores today after I work, so hopefully I'll have more luck :)

It was funny how busy Goodwill Outlet was on Thursday. There were so many people crowded around the misc. bins that the G.O. worker was yelling at them to calm down! I was glad that I was on the other side with the purses- I didn't dare go near the over-enthusiastic crowd with their gloved hands and bumper carts. Since when did thrifting become a combat sport?

Hope everyone has a good weekend- I have off on Monday, so hopefully I'll have time to organize my closet and list more etsy items!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Thursday Thriftday

So, yesterday I went on my first-ever thrifting Thursday. While I didn't strike gold, I did find a couple neat things. Mostly I was excited for the slightly warmer weather, and my first chance to wear this hooded cape from Goodwill:

Hooded Cape, Goodwill; Grey Sweater, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Flats, Goodwill Outlet

It was like wearing a Snuggie with a hood! Outside! And boy, do I love me a good Snuggie :) (And excuse the poor quality indoor pictures...I was having no luck with the timer outside, and the hubby was working!)

More on the goodies I found tomorrow. Happy Friday, everyone!!!!

My Favorite Things: In the Etsy Shop

I have some pretty cool things up in the Another's Treasure etsy shop right now :) There's a real camera case and a camera case-style purse, some really neat pins and clip-on earrings, belts, bags, and more! And as an extra special thank you to the awesome people who read my blog, when you convo me that you're a follower, you get a vintage surprise with your order!

Here are some favorites up right now:

So mosey on over to the shop and check these cool items out! Oh, and if you're looking for something specific, let me know! I'll keep an eye out. And, I always price $12 or lower, and mostly $8 or lower! I want to keep the shop in everyone's price range, no matter what!

Have a great day (I am going thrifting this morning before work, so I'll let you know how that goes later on...)

A Simple Update to a Cool Find

You know how I've mentioned that I wanted a vintage Samsonite overnight bag? Totally found one at Goodwill Outlet last weekend! Unfortunately, it's a slightly boring shade of oatmeal. So I thought I'd go all middle-schooler on it and whipped out a Sharpie....

Done! (At least for now :))

Until next time...

Some Saturday Favorites

I always find cool old glass soda bottles in antique stores...for $20 or so! Ugh. Not worth it. But for 50 cents? Yes, please. This is from Good Samaritan. I love the slogan!

And what would be a thrifting day without a train case? Okay, okay. I know I have a problem! I might start selling them in the etsy shop, if I can figure out a way to ship them! But I couldn't resist this purple one at Good Samaritan:

Next, one thing I never would've guessed that I wanted... a wallet with a built-in calculator! Ahhhh. The nerd in me is doing a little happy dance over this Goodwill Outlet find:

And, finally, some Pendleton! I've been favoriting (is this a word? hmm.) Pendleton scarfs like crazy on etsy, but they all had crazy shipping rates. Ugh. But then I found this awesome one at Midlothian Antiques for a good $5 less than those:

So, yeah. I found some really neat things Saturday. Even if they were mostly overshadowed by my oh-so-favorite new toy, my Game Gear. In fact, I think I'll go play it now...

Have a great one!

Always,
Amanda
