My Thrifting Outfit: Flannel and a Robe (Cardie)

Well, I didn't really go thrifting yesterday. I did go to a couple antique stores and an awesome used video game store, where I got 12 Game Gear games! 12! For example: X Men, Power Rangers, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat...

It's really awesome how great the Game Gear is, even though it came out a good 10 years before my Game Boy Advance SP. Anyway, here's what I wore:

Grey T (Forever 21); Flannel (Salvation Army in NC); Cardie (Goodwill); Jeans (Goodwill); Minnetonka Moccasins (Goodwill Outlet); Pins (From Aunt Shelley); Bag (Goodwill Outlet)

It was really fun spending the day with the hubby, going around on different errands! He found some Nintendo games he wanted, and he found some awesome pipes at the antique store. (It's always nice when he finds stuff he likes, too!)

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and have a happy Monday!

Always,
Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Big Mustard

It was pretty cold yesterday morning. But I didn't feel like drowning in my thick winter jacket per usual, so I pulled out Big Mustard to make an appearance! It may be very "one size fits all" baggy in strange places (the arms, especially!), but it's so cozy! I layered it with a new scarf made by my Aunt Shelley, pinned with a special butterfly pin from Grammy.

And, oh. I forgot that my Dooney & Bourke bag didn't sell on eBay (I was secretly glad...I wanted to keep it!), so I threw it on too.

Big Mustard Cardie, Lacoste Wool Sweater, Handmade Scarf, Goodwill Jeans, Goodwill Outlet Loafers, D & B Purse, Grammy's Butterfly Pin

Yeah, and I realize I look super tired here! I tried and failed to sleep in yesterday morning. Oh well. :) (And, um, please excuse the wrinkles on my jeans. :))

I got some really neat things yesterday, but I'll show you what I'm most excited about right now, and the rest this week...

$15 at Midlothian Antiques for Sega Game Gear + Accesories + Game!

So excited! I remember my older cousin playing on his Game Gear back in the day. I thought it was so cool! The funny thing is that I remember it being small- and this baby is huge. It's in great, working condition, and the hubby and I will be off to find more games for it today :)

Have a good one!

Amanda

What I'm Wanting: Woven Leather and Pretty Books

As I thrift today, the main thing I'm looking for is a woven leather purse like this one from etsy:

You see, I made the mistake last week of leaving a perfect woven leather purse behind at Goodwill, simply because there was a long line. I should have known better, of course. Now, I can just picture how a woven leather bag will make me feel like it's not the dead of winter...like it's more 70 degrees instead of 30.

So, I am searching for one today! I might (fingers crossed) have luck at Goodwill Outlet...

What else am I searching for? Hmmm. I would like to find a couple belts for myself. All of the ones I've found lately have gone into my etsy shop. I would like a couple cool ones, too!

I could also use a couple pair of pants to help me get out of my blue jeans rut. Of course, that's been going on since I could pick out clothes, so we'll see!

And I'd love to find a vintage cape! I found the perfect one on etsy, but the seller listed the price wrong and wouldn't send it to me after I paid for it. She refunded the money, but still. You'd think you would pay attention to what you list something for.

I've been also keeping an eye out for really cool old books. I love how pretty their covers are, and of course it's nice to read them, too!

Wish me luck :)

Always,
Amanda

Billy's Little Dodge City

I kind of found Billy's Little Dodge City Antiques by accident. I was going to Goodwill Ashland, and there on the side of the road was this sign:

How could I resist? There are all these cute little house-like shops, with the main antique shop in the back. I'm telling you all, it was vintage heaven! If this stuff was thrift store cheap, I would've come home with armfuls of it:

There were crates and crates of old papers, photos, graduation pamphlets, you name it! And also, tons of old metal tins! Ahhhh. It was so neat to go through all of it. Although I couldn't afford most things, I think it was worth the trip just to see it all...kind of like a vintage museum of awesome things.

If you're in the Richmond area, I would recommend stopping in this little place and taking a look around. It's located on US Route 1, two miles south of Ashland.

Happy Friday!!!!! Thrifting is tomorrow- can't wait!

Amanda

The Tale of the Justin Boots

I have had one heck of a time with Justin boots. It started when they kept popping up on my favorite bloggers' feet. The black vintage ones with fringe. They were everywhere! Everywhere but my thrift stores.

Then, miraculously, I found a pair at Family Thrift. Black, check. Fringe, check. Women's size 8? No check.

Of course they were a women's size 7- just big enough to squeeze my feet into, but not to be able to move. At all. Plus, they were $25.

After that, I told my hubby exactly what I wanted, and showed him pictures. He said he'd find some on eBay. Unfortunately, the ones he found there were new and more cowboy than cool- plus they were at least a women's size 10.

Unwearable. Ugh. So I went back to eBay and found my current pair, above, for $8. They are cool and everything, but no black. No fringe.

So, this story's not over yet. I will, someday, find my perfect pair of Vintage Justin roper boots. And you can bet that I'll tell you all about it!

Have a super Thursday, everyone! It's almost the weekend!!!!
Always,
Amanda

Meet Velvet Doll...

Velvet was Mom's favorite doll growing up. Her hair grows! Her eyes close! She can change clothes! She was awesome.

When I was younger, I met Mom's Velvet. She was well-loved, with bright red cheeks from a borrowed lipstick makeover, and shorter hair from numerous cuts. She had very pretty handmade outfits, which Mom recently told me were made and sent to her by her great aunt!

She and her grandma would dress Velvet up in the pretty clothes and Mom couldn't wait to recieve the packages with more to dress her up in.

What an awesome thing, right?

When I was at Billy's Little Dodge City Antiques on Sunday, I saw a Velvet doll! I was almost sure that it was the same doll as Mom's, only it had the original clothes and a little less of a makeover. :)

If the doll wasn't $35, I would've bought it for her, but I had to settle for a photo. When I shared it with her, it made me feel so good about my little thrift endeavor. Because really, vintage things were once someone's Velvet doll. And that makes them mean so much more.

Love you, Mom!

Amanda

Amanda's Antique Adventure

As I was saying yesterday, I had a little antique mall adventure on Sunday. I dug and I dug (carefully, as to not break anything expensive!), and I did find some cool stuff! This is the only outfit picture I could bear to take, as it was below freezing outside:

Sweater, Goodwill; Jacket, Salvation Army; Apple Pin, Another's Treasure Shop (available now!)

So, yeah. and I wore my trusty jeans and Justin boots again, too. Yup.

Anyway...Here are some of the awesome things I found:

Piggy Bank With Clear Belly, West End Antique Mall ($4)

Neat Old Scissors, Billy's Little Dodge City ($1)

Dude! Pyrex Cup, West End Antiques ($3)

And finally, for our mantle....

Laugh Baby Bricks, West End Antiques ($2)

It was pretty fun to circle round and round in the different antique shops, but it's not as good as thrifting (as least to me!). It seems like you always see the same type of things for wayyyyy too much at the antique malls, and you never know what you'll find at thrifts.

Although I did notice that my favorite thrift stores were very packed this past weekend. More so than usual. People were being a little too aggressive with their buggies in the Goodwill Outlet! Oh well. I guess everyone had to catch on eventually! (Josh said that maybe they've been reading my blog. Ha!)

Have a good one, everyone!

Always,
Amanda
