Victorian and Edwardian

I don't know much (not anything, really) about fashion or fashion history. But when I saw this cool book about Victorian and Edwardian fashion for 25 cents at Goodwill Outlet, I thought I'd check it out. How cool were the fashions back then? I would've hated wearing them, of course, since I don't even like dresses or skirts, but they look so put together and quite lovely.

1980s edition of Victorian and Edwardian Fashion, Goodwill Outlet (25 cents)

I admittedly didn't read much of the text, but the photos were interesting! I especially enjoyed some of the intricate hairdos. Here are some favorites:

Doesn't it look like the middle picture is some sort of duel? The caption just says that it's a group of women enjoying the weather. And I'm totally digging the long curled hair of the woman on the right :)

There's just something magical about old photos, especially from the late 1800s and early 1900s. I honestly can't picture what their lives must've been like. But they sure look great living them!

Hope your Thursday's amazing!

Always,
Amanda

PS: The hubby and I decided to make a weekend trip to the town of Luray, Virginia, for the weekend :) Hopeully I'll find some places to thrift shop while relaxing it up!

  1. I agree, I can't picture how their lives were. How crazy is that middle picture, though? Cool.

  2. I have never romanticized bygone eras. Umm...yeah, they might LOOK pretty but I bet they bathed much more infrequently than we do and had poor dental care...yeaahhh that's what I think about when I see that stuff. I'm horrible. Hahahaha.

  3. I totally agree, Alya. I can't imagine how their lives were, but I know the living conditions were much worse than today! It's just the old photos that I love looking at. And I honestly can't imagine myself looking as elegant as the ladies in these photos, with their unbrushed teeth and all!
