First Giveaway! Vintage Coach Bag and Oscar de la Renta Scarf!

With over 100 posts and more than 2500 views, this blog is well under way! I thought to celebrate I'd do my very first giveaway!

Here's what's up for grabs:

We have: a Vintage Coach Cross-body bag, a pretty Oscar de la Renta scarf, 2 plastic bangles and 2 handmade by me "ragamuffin" bracelets (from vintage fabric), a vintage chip pin in #5 (my favorite number!), a vintage long necklace, a vintage rooster pin, and a purse-sized Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I am so excited for this giveaway!

Here are the directions:
  • Comment on this post with at least your first name and last initial (ie: Amanda T.) on which of the giveaway items you are most excited about. (This will enter you once.)
  • Become either a fan on facebook or follow Another's Treasure. (This will enter you a second time! If you're already a fan or follower, consider that you're second entry.)
  • Either do a post on your blog about the giveaway or mention it on your facebook. (This will enter you a third time!)
So you can get your name put in the (vintage!) hat 3 times! Remember, the more times you're entered, the better chance you've got!

For this first giveaway, I can't do international shipping. (I'll save up so I can next time, promise!)

The drawing will be done on Friday evening by the hubby from his vintage hat.

I will announce the winner Friday night- be sure to contact me by Sunday at the latest (isanotherstreasure@hotmail.com) so I can get your prize to you!

Thanks, and good luck everyone!
Always,
Amanda

Saying Goodbye to D&B

Since I found a perfect vintage Dooney & Bourke bag yesterday, I decided it was time to let my other Dooney go. Since it's not vintage, I've listed it on eBay here if you're interested!

Have a great evening! Giveaway info tomorrow!

What I Scored!

Before I left this morning, I wrote out the list from the last post to keep me on track with my $20 thrifting spree.

And guess what? It helped! Not only did I score everything I needed (minus the Justin boots...those are going on Josh's Christmas list for me!), but I got some AWESOME deals on things I wouldn't think were possible with limited cash!

Here's what I got from my list:

(Plus a bulletin board, not pictured due to it's boringness, minus the Trouble game that I got for fun!)

Sony Vintage Alarm Clock ($1.50. Check!); Pencils ( $0.45. Check!); Etsy Shop Item Holder ($3.00. Check!); Christmas Sweater (<$1. Check!)

I also got these goodies that I couldn't believe the prices of:

Huge Vera Bradley Purse, Love of Jesus ($1!!!); Grey Suede Boots, Love of Jesus ($3); A pair of non-sunglasses (for finding golf balls) and a pair of sunglasses, FanTastic Thrift ($0.45); Vintage Dooney & Bourke Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($2!!)

Plus, I got other cool stuff that I'll tell you about later, but I just couldn't wait to share these things! I couldn't believe I got basically everything on my list and two designer purses and leather boots and I could go on and on... for $20 total!

I mean, you could buy some ill-fitting pants at Wal Mart for $20! It just amazes me how great of things I can find for so little. It makes me smile :)

Have a great evening everyone. My outfit will be posted tomorrow!

Always,
Amanda

What I'm Wanting: As I Thrift

Soooo. I was going to share some photos of Christmas decorations in the apartment today, but I've decided to wait on that.

The reason? I am going thrifting today with a budget of only $20, and I have to be focused. For me, that means I need to make a list of what I need (and want to find) and pretty much stick to it!

Maybe I'll even have some money left over :)

1980s Sony Alarm Clock via this eBay listing

Vintage alarm clock (possibly 80s one like above.)
Bulletin Board
Pencils (So I can use my cute vintage pencil sharpener...plus, some things just call for a pencil!)
Something to organize my Etsy shop items in
Kitschy Cute Christmas sweater
Desk organizer
Vintage Justin Roper boots like these below (via this eBay listing)

Wish me luck!

Creepy-Cool Friday: Just Creepy?

Is anyone else kind of scared of clowns, or is it just me? I know there are people who collect them, love them, ARE them even...

But me, not so much.

However, because some people do think clowns are cool, meet creepy Goodwill clown:

Creepy Clown, Goodwill

He was lying in a pile of discarded toys at Goodwill when the hubby and I went there Wednesday night. I just had to take a picture! Although you can definitely see the creepiness, he also seems a little "I know I'm cute! What of it?"

In other news, I made a Facebook page for the blog...be sure to become a fan!

And I added a Twitter also. Not so sure how I feel about it yet...I'll let you know!

Have a great Friday :)

I'm Not THAT Obsessed...Yet.

I typed in "Vintage Samsonite Train Cases" in the search engine on Flickr...

...and this from Queen of Re is what came up! Wow. I love- and I do mean love- these. But that's even a lot for me!

(Enough posts for today...see you tomorrow with some creepiness!)

Window Shopping At Goodwill

Oh, what to do on a Wednesday night before Thanksgiving when you're saving your $20 for thrifting on the weekend and you're bored?

Window shopping at Goodwill, that's what!

I decided to drag the hubby there last night in search of a creepy-cool item to photograph for tomorrow's post. I'm sure we looked a little shady- me with my camera phone aimed at the shelves and him scuffing along behind me- but it was fun and free!

Here are some of the things I saw that were more geeky-cool than creepy-cool. (Wait till you see the creepiness tomorrow!!)

Presidents Mug (Learning our nation's history over morning coffee, anyone?)

Somehow-Majestic-Looking Owl (How about this gem for the mantle? Scary!)

Embroidered Duck Picture (This I kind of loved, not gonna lie...It reminded me of the ducks by the water behind my parent's house.)

I am thankful for the awesomeness that is Goodwill. See? Even when you're broke, you can have tons of fun at thrift stores!

Always,
Amanda

Esty Shop Opening Today!!!!

Come check it out! I'll be adding vintage goodies throughout the day, and I am so excited to get this finally started :) If you have any specific requests of items you've seen on this blog, let me know- I just might be willing to let go of it!

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!! I am so thankful that you read this blog :)

New Obsession: Estate Sales!

I think I have a new Sunday love: Estate Sales :) Wow. I had never gone to one until the weekend before last, when we were looking for furniture.

The one the hubby and I went to Sunday was awesome! I don't think that many of the things had been used in many, many years...there was a full Lysol container that looked like it was 40 years old in the bathroom!

I scored a perfectly worn-in T-shirt, a super-vintage Band-aide container, a leather cigarrette case (which I promptly cleaned out and that I plan to use to carry my vintage pins on trips), a cool old-man hat and a Ford bag for hubby, a travel-size Yves Saint Laurent perfume, and these:

...all for.... $8! I was a little worried, 'cause I only had $10 in my purse and we thought we'd have to go to the bank to get more money for all our stuff!

But since it was Sunday, everything was half off, so we were fine. It was really fun to walk around all the rooms and get a glimpse of what life was like years ago.

Happy Wednesday! Tomorrow's Thanksgiving :)

Amanda

Costume Me Tuesday!

So, I'm not sure if I've told you guys yet, but I am allergic to metal. Any jewelry that isn't at least 14-carat gold or titanium or plastic, I can't wear.

This makes me so sad, 'cause I always find really cool metal vintage jewelry that I can't wear!

(I do have some that I couldn't pass up that'll be going in the Etsy shop- soon!)

Anyway, on Saturday, I found some more cool costume jewelry that I can -and will- rock :)

Plastic bangles, $1 for all at Love of Jesus
Necklace, $0.50 at Love of Jesus

Totally love how bangles can add a pop of color to an outfit that steps it up a notch. And my costume jewelry necklaces help tie everything together. Love them!

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday- almost Thanksgiving break!

I'm Know I'm Random, But What Are You?

Gotta love random treasures. Although I do look for certain things while thrifting, sometimes things just find a way into my heart!

Here are my random treasures from the Midlothian Antique store clearance room Saturday:

Kodak Camera ($1); Red Scissors Coupon Book With Needles Inside ($0.10); Brass Shell Holder ($1); Vintage Celluloid Leaf Pin ($3)
So cool.
Always,
Amanda

Gotta Love Them ABZ's

So I was super-excited when I spotted this book at Good Samaritan on Saturday for 75 cents:

It's the second edition of a 1961 Shel Silverstein (of Where the Sidewalk Ends fame) Uncle Shelby's ABZ Book.

I'd never heard of it, but as a fan of Silverstein from childhood, I grabbed it.

Then I saw that it was the second printing! I'm sure it would be better if it were the first, but that's still cool!

And then I started reading it! Oh. My. Goodness. It cracks me up! It's so un-PC. I mean, really- "Mommy loves the baby more than she loves you." !!!! What the heck, right?

And this gem is on the last page: "The paper in this book is not really paper. It's made from candy. The End."

The whole book pretty much tries to get kids in trouble with their parents- by saying that, by throwing raw eggs on the ceiling, a person who lives up there will catch them for you. Oh, and that "Q is for Quarantine" and that it means that kids should go in 'cause there's candy!

Just insane. But what a totally awesome 75 cents spent, right?

Happy Monday!

My Thrifting Outfit: All's Fall

As promised, I wore my finds from the other night thrifting yesterday. I decided to roll the bandana into a necklace, and I pinned it with a vintage pin from the estate sale last weekend ($2.50).

I love the outside of our new apartment building- even though it's just across the street from the old one, it seems like we're sort of in the country now with trees everywhere!

Oh, I do love fall :)

Always,
Amanda

PS: I did find some cool things (of course!) thrifting yesterday, so more on those this week!

My Name Is Amanda, And I Love Train Cases...

I am so in love with these, it's crazy! But train cases are perfect for organizing things, and they're so pretty. And I just plain love them.

Here's the one I got today, in green!

It was $3 at Love of Jesus. Just a little wiping down, and it's just right for holding our mail by the door. Green is my favorite color, and something about finding this just made me so happy!

Ahhhh.

My thrifting outfit tomorrow. More fun stuff this week!

Always,
Amanda

What I'm Wanting: For Christmas!

OK, so I am aware that this has little or nothing to do with thrifting.

You see, these are the items that I simply can't purchase at thrift stores for myself, so they are going on my Christmas list!

In an effort to keep track of the few things I want, I thought I'd post on here.

Here's what's on my list this year:
Splashy Knee-Highs!

JCrew Flats in the Elusive Size 8
Jcrew.com

Sony Reader Pocket Edition in Pink
Target.com Harajuku Lovers Baby Solid Fragrance
Sephora.com

What do you want this holiday season that just can't be (easily) thrifted?
Have a great Saturday- my finds from thrifting this afternoon will be posted tomorrow!

Amanda

Creepy-Cool Friday: Bird!

For the next little while, I've decided to do "creepy-cool" Fridays instead of "thrift-by-color" Fridays. (Gotta give myself some time to get more cute color items!)

Today, meet creepy-cool Bird:

Bird, Goodwill ($1.25)

Creepy-cool (adj.): An item that, while slightly menacing in some ways, is also undeniably awesome.

(My definition, of course!)

Something about his little chipped beak and puffed-up body is a little "I have bird doo, and I know how to use it!" But oh, is he cute!

Happy Friday!

Tunes and Tiny Tomes

Another Goodwill run netted me some of my best deals EVER. (I guess it's good I live 20 minutes away from the other thrifts, 'cause otherwise I might go to them all the time too!)

Anyway, I found these cute little illustrated classics that are totally purse-friendly for $1 and these great unopened CD collections of Joni Mitchell and all-time favorite Carole King for $3.25 each!

Awesome.

Bears and Blue

It's so good to be back in my regular routine. As worth it as the new apartment is, I really hate moving!

As a treat to myself for finishing moving (like I need an excuse!) I went to Goodwill after work.

I found a cute outfit that I'm pretty sure I'll wear thrifting Saturday afternoon- so cute and comfy!

From top: Bear Print Bandana ($2); Soft Sweater ($3); Blue Pants ($5), all Goodwill
Have a great Wednesday! It's getting closer to the weekend by the minute :)

Moved In!

Soooooo, we're done! All moved in :)

We did have a couple little snags (I twisted my ankle Friday night and we moved all weekend), but overall it was great (My dad came up from Florida as a surprise to help us Saturday! We found great deals on furniture at thrift stores!)

I'm just glad to be done!

Here's a couple of the pieces of furniture we bought:

Dresser and Mirror (With Updated Pulls); Goodwill, $50

Black Leather (Perfect!) Chair; Goodwill ($50)

Broyhill Desk; Good Samaritan ($50)

Awesome, right? We couldn't have gotten Wal Mart furniture for that cheap, and these are all super-nice! I knew that my thrifts would come through for me :)

It was weird though to go to the thrifts I love and not look at the bags and shoes and other fun stuff...but as you can see, it was totally worth it!

Amanda

Can You Believe?

...That this many people were at Goodwill Outlet Wednesday? Geez.

Is it just me, or are more and more people going thrifting? While that is a good thing for me and this blog (I am with the times! Yay!), does this mean I'll be fighting off more people for thrifted treasures?

I'm not sure. I have been thrifting for years, and I never used to have to wait in line at checkout. Many of my classmates would have rather gone to the mall than Goodwill. But I feel like now, it's different. Thrifting maybe isn't exactly hip, but it's hipper. A lot of the fashion blogs I read have featured thrifted finds that put mine to shame!

Anyway, I'll be back to regular posting and goodies tomorrow when my internet's back up, and we're officially in the new apartment! Have a great Monday, everyone :)

Amanda

A Polaroid Sunday

Well, we're still moving stuff (fun, fun), but I thought I'd show you a product of the Polaroid film I found at the Midlothian Antiques store a couple weeks ago:

The view outside our old apartment

The film, which is no longer mass produced, is difficult to find and usually expensive. So I was stoked when I found this film, even though it expired it 2006. I think it gives it an old-timey tint, don't you? I am saving the other 19 photos for special moments.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Thrift Crawl: Richmond, VA

So you all know by now that I go to the same 4 thrift stores every Saturday (except today, since I'm moving!), and they are all really great in their own ways. However, each has something that's particularly awesome, and that is what I'll share with you today!

Goodwill Outlet: My favorite, hands down. When you first go through the propped-open warehouse door, you see bins and bins. You would never know that there were treasures buried deep down if you just glanced over them. So, you must roll up your sleeves and dig! I go straight back to the purses/shoes and go through those first. This is where I've found many designer purses, stuffed down at the bottom. And the shoes here, especially the ones on the racks, are in suprisingly good shape! I've found almost-new shoes here on numerous occasions, and new shoes at least once. Then, I head over to the clothes and dig through there until I can take no more. After a quick walk-through of the misc bins, I am done. (Usually with a huge bag full to show for it!)

Love of Jesus Thrift Store: This is my next stop on Saturday mornings. You never know what you will find at this thrift, but I have found a designer purse as well as a super-vintage Cosmo mag. Oh, and they are a good source for train cases and old suitcases, too. Right now, they have an entire corner dedicated to Christmas, so if you're into decorations, certainly head over there, too.

Family Thrift: Now this thrift can be reallllly well-priced, or a little pricey, depending on what you're looking for. They have the best selection of vintage sunnies of any of Richmond's thrifts-well-priced at 99 cents to about 3 dollars each. They also have a room full of sale merchandise, where I've found Pyrex cups for 45 cents each and a Samsonite train case for $2. They also have numerous markers and art supplies, and sports equipment galore in the sale section.

Good Samaritan Thrift Store: This is possibly the most random thrift in Richmond, and also one of my favorites. They have a fairly large kid's section, which also holds vintage games (this is where I got my 1970s Boggle!). I always find cool little vintage things in the arts/crafts section, and they have loads of baskets if that's your thing. Their furniture also usually seems to be good quality, which is nice. (I'll probably be going back there once I move and need more!)

Hope you enjoyed my little tips and info, and if you're ever thrifting in the Richmond area, be sure to check these out!

Amanda

Thrift By Color: Blue Jean Love

As I've said before, I've always been a bit of a tomboy. I'm not a big fan of dresses, or skirts, or frills- and I pretty much just started liking the color pink.

One thing I have always loved, though: blue jeans. They are my go-to weekend wear, and since it's usually the weekend when I thrift, you all have seen my fave jeans many times. Here are some outtakes:

Although I would love to branch out and start wearing, say, khakis or courds or something different, I probably won't. I have to wear a uniform all week, with black or grey pants and a uniform top...so I try to be both comfy (jeans) and cute (random thrift finds) on the weekend.

Today we are getting our keys to the new apartment, and we're going to be moving all weekend! I'm going to set up some posts for the next couple days, but they're won't be any thrifting for me this weekend, I'm afraid :(

Have a good one!

A Wednesday Thriftday

Yesterday, I had the day off, and I decided to go to my thrift stores in the morning before packing all afternoon (we move this weekend!).

Here's what I wore:

Michael Michael Kors Shirt, Goodwill ($2); Old Navy Cardie, Diversity Thrift ($2); Jeans, Goodwill ($4); Docs, Goodwill Outlet ($2); Coach Bag, Goodwill Outlet; Necklace, Thrifty Quaker ($1); Idee Geniale Headband, Etsy ($12)

Here's a close-up of the headband I got from one of my favorite blogger's (Idee Geniale) etsy shop, Little Knitty Things. It's so cute! And perfect with my little vintage pin :)

I found some really cute things yesterday, although many of them are gifts, so I can't show them here! I did find yet another vintage Coach purse that I'm in love with, and some really cute vintage Christmas stuff. Once we move into our new place and I start decorating for Christmas, I'll definitely show you all :)

Have a great day, and a great rest of the week!

Fantastically Faux!

I would like you to meet my new coat:

Faux-Fur Coat, Salvation Army ($6)

This is how me and this coat met:

I walked into the Salvation Army Saturday and made a bee-line for the coats/jackets. They had a ton of leather jackets, and I found one that was perfect! So nice, so soft...so torn :( There was a huge hole in the side-pretty unrepairable for me.

I decided to take a quick look through the regular coats, just to see if they had something almost as good as the torn jacket. And that's when I saw this soft, fluffy, almost stuffed-animal-like coat! For $12! I tried it on and fit like a dream. I totally fell in love.

So, although I usually don't pay $12 for any item, I went for it. When I got to the counter, I discovered that it was the half-off color! I got a nice, warm, fluffy coat for six bucks.

And that, folks, is why I thrift :)

Always,
Amanda
PS: Happy Veteran's Day!
