Giveway Winners!

I was so happy to be able to give away two pretty bags to my wonderful readers :) It's so much fun to spread the thrifted love! Without further ado, here are the two winners, randomly chosen by my adorable hubby from my new $1 boater hat (more on that tomorrow...)

Yay! Congrats Kim D. on winning the modern D & B bag, and Sarah G. on winning the vintage Coach bag! I will be emailing you shortly to get your addresses :)

Hope your Memorial Day was great!

Thrifting My Stripes!

I found a couple really cool things yesterday while out thrifting, and most of my favorites were found at Good Samaritan. I really love going to this thrift store because it always seems like the least picked-over, and the staff is so friendly :) Since I come in once a week, they recognize me and always say hi, which is so nice.

This week, they had some bags of costume jewelry they were holding for me (I usually grab a couple of the pieces and give the rest to my sis-in-law who makes jewelry). I also found an awesome vintage Capezio striped bag that almost makes up for not being able to find the perfect striped Tshirt. And this great woven fan, which will be just what I need at the Florida beach I'll be at really soon!

Woven Fan, (50 cents); Striped Capezio Bag, ($1.99); Both: Good Samaritan thrift store

I can't say enough great things about Good Samaritan and the ladies who work there. It's especially unique in the Richmond hipster-filled scene to find a great thrift store that has vintage Coach bags like the one I'm giving away (enter here until tonight at 8 p.m. by the way!) and this great Capezio one. And it's where we got our desk that we love and our coffee table too!

I guess that's enough thrift store gushing for one day :) Hope your long weekend is going well, and I'll see you tomorrow!

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Splashes of Red

Yesterday was so much fun thrifting! I had the hubby with me since it's his weekend off, so he took my outfit picture and we made our way through three thrift stores and a car junkyard :)

The sun was shining (yay!), but ohhh was it hot (boo!). I wore very lightweight layers, some of which didn't last as the temps rose. Here's my outfit:

Ray Bans, Goodwill in Pensacola; Scarf, Love of Jesus; Wolf T, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Bass Loafers, Goodwill in Brandon; Red Capezio Bag, Estate Sale; Bangles, Midlothian Antiques (100% Thrifted!)

You want to guess which layers didn't last? Well, the first to come off was the scarf! I guess I was hoping it would be cooler than mid-80s outside when I put it on in the morning. The chambray shirt lasted through the thrift stores, but when we went to Chesterfield Auto Parts (a huge outdoor car junkyard where you can pull parts from cars) it was tied around my waist :)

I had a great Saturday despite the heat, and it was so nice just hanging out with my hubby! I hope your weekend's going well, too!

Always,
Amanda

PS: Remember to enter the giveaway here!!! You have until tomorrow night at 8 p.m. to enter :)

Like Sunshine Through Your Window

I've been meaning to show you all our kitchen windowsill, which holds our now complete vintage insulator collection! I made a point to only get the prettiest turquoise ones, and when the sun shines through them, it is simply beautiful :) (The sun was not cooperating yesterday when I was taking this picture, however!)

Vintage Insulators: Various Thrift Stores, Antique Stores, and Estate Sales, All: Between $1 and $4 Each

As you can sort of see, the view from this kitchen window is mostly of brick, so I like having the lovely sea-colored glass to look at instead of brick and bits of neighbors walking past their windows!

On another note, I am so glad that this is a long weekend! The hubby and I are going thrifting today, and then going over to the in-laws Sunday and Monday. I'll be sure to show you today's outfit tomorrow, and finds throughout the week :) The winners of the giveaway will be announced Monday night around 8 p.m., so go here to enter!!

Amanda

Another's Treasure Giveaway #3: Vintage vs. Modern!

Yesterday, I was asked in the comments what I do with the things I thrift. As you all know (or maybe not, but now you do!) I have a shop on etsy where I sell cool vintage finds. I use or wear most of the other things you see, and I've given thrifted goodies as gifts for Christmas and birthdays. I've shown you all outfits I've put together with thrifted duds, and I've done giveaways on the blog :) Which leads me to the reason for this post!

I've got the third Another's Treasure giveaway, starting today and ending this Monday night at 8:00 p.m. :) Here's what's up for grabs:

Modern Thrifted Dooney & Bourke Little Bag OR Vintage Thrifted Coach Little Bag

Your choice! I will be giving both of these bags away, so there will be two lucky winners!!! Here's how you enter:

1. Leave a comment with your first name and last initial (ie: Amanda T.), your blog or email address, and your pick: vintage or modern.

2. For another entry, let me know that you're a follower, a Facebook friend, or a Twitter follower :)

That's it :) Good luck everyone! I'm excited to finally do another giveaway :) Follow Another's Treasure on Facebook, Twitter, or Google Friend Connect  for the first scoop on the next giveaway and other exciting thrifting finds! (This giveaway is open to all readers, and the two winners will be selected randomly by the hubby from a vintage hat!)

Amanda

Red and Mint; Seashells and Butterflies

Now that I've shown you Saturday's finds, it's time to talk about more of Sunday's estate sale goodies :) I have to say that estate sales are edging their way into my heart as a close second to thrifts. There's something so neat about going through a whole house full of treasure, especially when the house itself is as retro and intriguing as the things inside.

Here are some treasures from the first estate sale of the day:

Butterfly Scarf; 80s Shell Belt; Vintage Capezio Bag; Mint Green Costume Necklace: All, Estate Sale 5-23

Pretty lovely, right? :) I've actually been looking for this Capezio bag for awhile- ever since I found the chambray version at an estate sale a couple months ago! It's very roomy, but can be very small in a suitcase, so it's perfect for our Florida trip :)

You all know how much I love finding non-metal jewelry, and I just love the color of the mint green necklace. It was sitting in a box of jewelry marked $1 and everything was 50 percent off!

The butterfly scarf and the shell belt just needed to come home with me. They are so pretty but different, which fits my style just fine.

I hope everyone's last two days of the week fly by so you can enjoy the long weekend :) I know I'm looking forward to it!

Amanda

Dapper Meets Girlish

Today I bring you the rest of Saturday's thrifting finds. I was excited to find something cool for the hubby for cheap, and also a couple girlie goodies for me and the etsy shop :)

Here they are:

Vintage Kaywoodie Pipe, Goodwill Outlet; Scarf, Good Samaritan; Vintage Glasses, Good Samaritan; Vintage Laura Ashley Glasses Case, Good Samaritan

I was very happy to find the pipe, even though it's stem is broken, since the hubby loves them :)  He has cool wooden displays for them and this one looks great with the others!

The scarf is just so pretty for spring and summer and I can't wait to wear it :)

I'm tempted to take the glass out of these vintage glasses so that I can wear them all the time. They are that awesome.

The Laura Ashley case will most likely end up in the etsy shop. (Which I finally updated a couple days ago-check it out!)

Have a great Wednesday!!!

Amanda

Saturday's Finds: Thrifted Leather

Now that I talked so much about Sunday's estate sales, I'm going to rewind it a bit to Saturday. My thrift stores where full of great finds, especially Goodwill Outlet. I always seem to find great purses and shoes there, but this time I hit buttery leather heaven!

My wonderful new leathery duds:

Lovely Black Leather Liz Claiborne Purse ($2); Brown Leather Minnetonka Mocs ($2.50)

How amazing, right? The purse is perfect for a work week bag, and the mocs are great for slipping on when I get home! Minnetonkas are soooo soft. Like, softer than any shoe I've ever worn in my whole life. They are simply heaven :)

I hope everyone's having a great week so far! I'm looking forward to the long weekend. It will be full of thrifting, relaxing, and packing for our upcoming Florida trip. Are you doing anything fun this weekend?

Amanda

Sunday's Estate Sale Tale

Yesterday, I visited 3 estate sales and an antique store and came home with all sorts of treasure! My adventure took me from the west end of Richmond to the country towns in Hanover County (including Beaverdam!) to Midlothian and back. For those who haven't visited Richmond, that's a pretty long way. :)

Before I get too far into the story of my day, here's a photo of what I wore:

Straw Hat and Ray Bans, Pensacola Goodwill; T, Old Navy; Sweater, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Shoes, Goodwill; Purse, Goodwill Outlet

Okay, back to my adventure. So, one of the local estate sale companies was holding two estate sales in the hills of Hanover County- one nearer the city and one in a barn wayyyy out in the woods. (AKA: I saw not one, but two men mowing their huge country lawns with tractors with a mowing attachment on the back!)

I went to the "city" one first, and found quite a few neat things, including an 80s red Capezio bag, a butterfly scarf, and a little leather box with "studs" embossed on it. Pretty cool stuff.

Then I made my way 20 minutes into the woods toward the "country" estate sale. It was packed. Cars everywhere. A huge line to the register. Oh my. But it was well worth it! There were so many neat things in the rickety old country barn that I was almost overwhelmed. There was a whole room filled with vintage pipe accessories, but all the pipes had already sold. (The hubby collects vintage pipes, so I was hoping to get one there.)

But I did end up with another blue glass insulator to complete my windowsill collection, a vintage safety razor for the hubby, and a tobacco tin filled with random treasure. Here's what I found inside, plus the safety razor:

All this was $3 total! Yeah, that's four vintage pocket knives, keys, a penny, a tie tack, some random brass things, and what I think is a shell from a bullet. Crazy right?

After I left the crazy country estate sale, I went over to Midlothian Antiques to get some pipes for the hubby and to one last estate sale. It was the least exciting of the three, although I did find a vintage TWA bag and a couple neat pieces of costume jewelry.

Whew! Now that I've talked the socks off of you, I'll show you everything else later on this week, plus Saturday's finds.

Have a fantastic Monday :)

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Black Clouds and Brown Leather

Yesterday's thrifting outfit was kind of added onto as I went. I was wearing a newly thrifted black shirt that, while flattering, was maybe a little too low-cut for comfort. My second stop at Love of Jesus fixed that with a new lightweight scarf artfully tied for more coverage. The little purse I started with was not quite big enough, so I picked up a great vintage brown leather bag at Goodwill Outlet.

I was also originally wearing closed-toed shoes, but they weren't very comfy. I searched my favorite thrifts and found no perfect leather sandals, so I made a trip to Dollar Tree and got more pairs of my comfy dollar ones. (I'll need them for our upcoming beach vacation!) After a few quick changes, I had my new outfit:

Shirt, Goodwill; Scarf, Love of Jesus; Jeans, Goodwill; Vintage Leather Bag, Goodwill Outlet; Flip Flops, Dollar Tree; Bangles, Midlothian Antiques and West End Antiques

This was my first try taking my outfit picture with my new camera and tripod. I got one of those tripods that can bend any which way or stand up straight, and it's really easy to use! I chose an empty parking lot near Dollar Tree where the stores haven't opened yet. I like this area since it looks mountainous and different from other areas around Richmond.

I found some pretty great things thrifting yesterday :) I'm excited to show you all!

Amanda

What I'm Wanting: Sandals and Stripes!

I've been searching my favorite thrifts for months looking for the perfect striped short-sleeve shirt. So far, no dice. I have found the one striped sweater that I wore a couple weekends ago, but it's a little too thick for this warmer weather we're having.

So, I'm still on the search!

Another thing on my list due to the arrival of warm days? Some leather sandals! While I love my Dollar Tree flip-flops (and they are surprisingly comfy) I know they'll break any second now. So some sturdier sandals like these are on my list:

Leather Sandals From grandmafliesabroom esty shop

So, I'm off to (hopefully) find what I'm looking for for myself, and also some things for the etsy shop! I haven't updated it lately due to travelling and being sick, but I promise to get some new goodies up by tomorrow :)

Hope you have a great Saturday!

Amanda

The Cute and The Unusual

Yay- it's Friday! You know what that means, don't you? One more day until thrift shopping fun :) (Do you all go thrift shopping on Saturdays too? I have to, since I work full time during the week.) But I'm getting ahead of myself. I still have one last group of goodies to show you from Sunday's epic estate sale:

Glass Telephone Pole Insulator; Vintage Blue Evening Bag; Vintage Camera Bag; Vintage Napkins; All: Estate Sale 5-16-10

You may be curious about the unusual blue glass insulator. I know I was the first time I saw one! Apparently, they used to be placed on top of telephone poles to keep the wires insulated from the wooden poles. I like them because they're so pretty :) We have a little collection going on our windowsill. (Here is some more info on them if you're interested from collectorsweekly.com.)

Now onto the cute things! I love this little evening bag, and when the checkout lady rang it up at 75 percent off, it was less than a dollar :) She said she was jealous! The camera bag is neat because the strap is detachable, and there's a longer one inside for over-the-shoulder carrying. And finally, the little tea towels were an irresistible 25 cents!

Whew! That's finally all that I got from the estate sale last Sunday. The total for everything, plus two things for the hubby, was a mere $5. Now that's a deal, my friends.

Always,
Amanda

Desk Supplies and Liberty

I have more estate sale finds to show you! Man, that estate sale was good :) I found a bunch of cool stuff, plus the hubby found himself a safety razor and now he wants to collect them!
Here are the neat vintage desk supplies and cross-stitch I found:

Vintage Ace Scout Stapler (of my dreams!!); Vintage Tatum Metal Hole Punch; Vintage Journal (50 cents for all!!); Liberty Cross-stitch, (10 cents); All: Estate Sale 5-16-10

I've seriously been searching for a vintage stapler just like this one for ages! I've been using a pretty cool Swingline Woodie stapler, but this Scout one is the ultimate :) (I'm starting to realize how nerdy this is making me sound...)

I was drawn to the awesome color of the hole punch, and the vintage journal is pretty cool too. The cross-stitch has been added to my ever-growing cross-stitch collection :)

Hope your Thursday is awesome!

Amanda

So Close to Beach Time!

In less than a month, the hubby and I will be hopping on a plane back to Florida for a week and a half :) We'll be with my parents for the first half, and then at the beach with hubby's parents the second half! I seriously can't wait.

Of course, I've been stocking up on vintage thrifted beach goodies, and I found two awesome beach things at the estate sale we went to Sunday!

Vintage Beach Bag, 50 cents; Vintage Beach Towel, 10 cents; Both: Estate Sale 5-16-10

I think I mentioned the other day that everything at the estate sale was 75 percent off the already low prices! It was like vintage heaven in there :)

The beach bag is the perfect size for a towel, magazine, sunscreen, cell phone, and anything else you might need beach side. It has so many compartments and pockets that it will be easy to stay organized :)

The beach towel- now thoroughly washed- is nice and big and comfy. Just like you want a beach towel to be!

Ahhh, all this beach talk is really making me wish for Florida. Less than a month to go until vacation time!!!

Amanda

Vintage Finds from Saturday

I had pretty good luck finding vintage goodies on Saturday's thrift trip :) Not only did I find the vintage Coach purse and wicker bag I showed you yesterday, but I lucked out with a perfectly fitting vintage hat and awesome non-metal jewelry!

I mentioned yesterday how one of the bangles I bought at Midlothian Antiques in a pack of four turned out to be bakelite. Here's the whole pack, plus a ring and my other finds:

Vintage Hat ($5); Vintage Plastic and Bakelite Bangles ($4); Vintage Ring ($4); All: Midlothian Antiques; Wicker Bag, Goodwill Outlet ($2)

I honestly didn't thrift much more on Saturday, except a 1990s Polly Pocket for 10 cents! Did anyone else play with them as a kid? I remember getting one on Easter and playing with it after church :) I don't think they make the small ones anymore, since the little people were probably swallowed by kids more than once!

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday :)

My Estate Sale Outfit: Vintage Coach and Bakelite

Yesterday, the hubby and I went to an awesome estate sale after church. It was amazing! Everything was 75 percent off, and there were so many cool things :) This is what I wore, minus the vintage wicker bag that I just had to show you all from Goodwill Outlet yesterday:

Ray Bans, Goodwill in Pensacola; T-Shirt, Old Navy ($2.50!); Vest, Thrifted; Jeans, Goodwill; Flip-Flops, Dollar Tree; Vintage Coach Purse, Good Samaritan; Vintage Wicker Bag, Goodwill Outlet; Bakelite and Plastic Bangles, Midlothian Antiques

I had to pull out my hippie vest again, since it's so spring-y and the weather was just right for it :) Cool story about the red Bakelite bangle I'm wearing. I got it yesterday at Midlothian Antiques as part of a 4 for $4 pack of 'plastic' bangles. It was only after I got home and took a closer look that I realized that it's the much cooler- and usually more expensive- bakelite material!

I felt pretty hippie-ish with my vest and bangles, but I'm liking that look for the steamy months ahead. Carefree and comfy is my kind of thing!

Happy Monday, everyone :)

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: A Happy Birthday :)

I had a really great birthday yesterday! I found some awesome things thrifting, including a great vintage wicker purse, a little leather Coach bag, a super-cute vintage hat, and other fun stuff :) And... I got a new camera!!! It's so perfect for me, too, since it's waterproof, shockproof, dust proof, and clumsy Amanda proof :)

There wasn't much light left by the time I charged the battery a little, but here's the inaugural new camera picture:

Silk Top, Goodwill; Silk Scarf, Goodwill (last seen here); Jeans, Goodwill; Purse, Goodwill; Pin, Midlothian Antiques; Flip Flops, Dollar Tree; Bangle, Midlothian Antiques

It was just a really nice day :) We saw Date Night, which was funny, ate BBQ for lunch, hit thrift stores and an antique store and Target for my camera, and had dinner with the in-laws at Bonefish! Whew, what a day :) I have to say, I am quite liking 24 so far!

I will have plenty to show you all from today's thrifting, and a pretty camera to take photos of everything with!!!

May 15th :)

Yay! It's my 24th birthday! I can't believe that I'm this far past being a teenager :) Today, I'll be thrifting with the hubby, seeing a movie, and eating dinner with the in-laws at Bonefish Grill. (Yum, yum!)

Hopefully, I'll find some great things to show you next week on today's thrift trip :) I do have one last group of things to show you that I thrifted the day after we got home from Florida at our local Goodwill:

Vintage Viewmaster Reels, Goodwill ($2 for all!)

I was so excited to open a sort of crappy-looking box and find these. I have a 1950s viewmaster, and I just love the old reels- especially for such an awesome price! The coolest thing is that they are from Florida theme parks Disney and Busch Gardens, which I grew up around. How neat to see how they looked before I was even born :)

I hope everyone has a great day! I know I will!

Amanda

Unpredictable Film Cameras Are Awesome!

I have one more thing to show you from our Florida weekend :) I thrifted a 5 year old CVS film camera with expired film for $1.99 at the Goodwill in Brandon, and I just got the film developed. You never know with film how it's going to turn out, and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Here's the camera (in it's original packaging and everything!) and a couple of the photos I took:

From Left: Camera, Goodwill ($1.99); Film photo of my mom and little bro at graduation; Me in the backyard of my parent's house :)

The indoor pictures didn't turn out very well, but the outdoor ones were pretty great! I think the lady at CVS probably looked at the hubby funny when he asked for it to be developed, though. I don't think they get a lot of film to do anymore. But what fun to have real photos to remember the great, hot Florida weekend!

Have a great Friday, everyone! I can't believe I turn 24 tomorrow!

Amanda

Florida and Flowers

By Sunday, I was pretty much knock-down sick. But being the stubburn thing I am, I still went to church in the morning and a monthly estate sale on the way home. (The same one from this post.)

Granted, I didn't last very long at the estate sale. A quick walk through, and I had a couple little things to bring home with me :)

Vintage Floral Fascinator Hat ($5); Vintage Florida Pennant ($1); Both Monthly Estate Sale

I don't know if I personally can pull off such a girly hat, but it's so pretty! Maybe one of these days I'll get brave and throw it on with my usual jeans-and-shirt combo. It might actually look decent with my navy and white striped shirt!

And the Florida pennant I had to get. I mean, Florida is my home state. It has a very special place in my heart, despite the sometimes staggering humidity and the crazy mosquitoes in the summer. I can't wait to go back with the hubby for a week and a half next month!

On another note, I'm finally starting to get better :) It was getting really old with the coughing up stuff, let me tell you!

Have a great Thursday :)

Amanda

A Few Goodwill Outlet Treasures

Although by Saturday I was feeling pretty sick, I did make it to my fave thrifts for about an hour. I found my awesome exercise bike (!) and picked up a couple things at Goodwill Outlet before coming home and crashing on the couch coughing! Here are my G.O. finds:

Jar of Buttons; Vintage Leather Clutch; 90s Game Boy Holder; 70s Leather Wallet; All Goodwill Outlet

It was pretty funny to find the jar of buttons, since my mom and Grammy and I were talking about them when I was in Florida. And the $8 price tag from an antique store was still on the jar! The vintage leather clutch is very soft and nice, and it will probably end up in the etsy shop soon.

I keep finding these GameBoy holders, and they are so neat! Should I attempt to use one as a very organized little purse? Ha ha, that would be a funny trend to start :) The awesome 70s wallet is already in my purse filled with my various membership cards, debit card, etc. There are so many card slots! It's perfect, 'cause each card has it's own secure little place so nothing gets lost!

I hope everyone's Wednesday is great :) I am feeling a little better, and am headed back to work this morning. Hopefully I'll be completely well by my birthday Saturday!

Amanda

Tampa Thrift Finds + Bronchitis

So I went to the doctor yesterday. Turns out I have bronchitis, and I can't go back to work until tomorrow. Which would be great if I wasn't hacking up yucky stuff 24/7. It's pretty gross!

Of course you all don't want to hear about being sick, though, you want to see some thrifted finds! Lucky for you, I have plenty saved up to show you while I am under the weather. This is the last batch of Florida finds, from last Monday when we checked out Tampa thrifts on the way to the airport :)

Venezia (Venice) Scarf, Goodwill in Tampa; Hat, Sunshine Thrift; Floral Scarf, Sunshine Thrift

The coolest thing about the Venezia scarf is that my parents, brother and I went there back in 2006. I had a Venezia Venice shirt, but it got lost in one of my many apartment moves in the past couple years, so this is like a second souvenir!

The hat, I know, is now part of my growing collection of straw hats! But it's blue, and different :)

The floral scarf is very pretty, and I couldn't leave without it, although it might end up in the etsy shop. I have to do an update sometime soon, but that will have to wait until after I'm better.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday. I'll be sleeping alllllll day in the hopes that by tomorrow morning I'll be feeling not so sick :)

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Simple Stripes

As I mentioned yesterday, Saturday didn't start off on a high note. By the time I was done with work, broke my camera, and went inside to change for thrifting, I didn't really feel like choosing an outfit at all. Naturally, I picked up the two closest things (my new Forever 21 skinny jeans and my striped shirt) and threw them on. I slid into my newly thrifted Bass loafers and I was out the door!

After a quick trip for a cheap temporary replacement camera, I thrifted my way through a pretty successful day :)

Here's what I wore:

Striped Top, Goodwill Outlet; Necklace, Good Samaritan; Jeans, Forever 21; Bass Loafers, Goodwill in Brandon; Purse, Goodwill Outlet

I'm pretty sure these are the only non-thrifted jeans in my closet right now. I just got them the other day at Forever 21 because they were almost thrift store cheap at twelve dollars. I didn't have any jeans this dark, and they are pretty comfy (although they are obviously pretty long, hence the cuffs!)

This picture was taken with the temporary camera, which is surprisingly 5.1 megapixels despite the super-low price. I can't wait to get a really decent camera, though.

My 24th birthday's this Saturday, so here's to hoping one will be in my near future!

I hope everyone has a great Monday. My chest cold I told you about yesterday has taken a turn for the worst, so I'm afraid I'll be off to the doctor :( (I really hate going to the doctor, so it takes a lot to get me there. Ugh sickness.)

Amanda

I'll Be Going on Bike Rides to Nowhere :)

Yesterday didn't start out as the best day ever. I have this awful chest cold and I had to work in the morning anyway. Then, I managed to trip and fall on the way to my car and break our little point-and-shoot camera. Oh, clumsy Amanda! :( But I was determined to make the day better, so I went and bought a very cheap digital camera to get me by until I save up for a new one and headed off to my favorite Richmond thrifts.

I'm so glad I was optimistic, 'cause guess what I found? An awesome vintage excercise bike!!!!! At Love of Jesus, just like I thought I might! All it needed were a few coats of paint (I chose 'ivy green'), and now it's all set! The best part? It's fairly small and has tiny wheels on the bottom, which make it easy to move from our balcony to the living room :)

Vintage Canadian Exercise Bike, Love of Jesus ($25)

Oh, and did I mention it's Canadian? Yup! What could be better than a Canadian exercise bike found in Richmond, VA? The funny thing is that Love of Jesus had not one, not two, not three...but four exercise bikes! This was definitely the cutest and most functional for our apartment, but I'm glad I had a selection to choose from :)

I was going to show you yesterday's outfit in this post too, but it's already getting a little long with my bike babbling! So expect a thrifting outfit post for your Monday morning :)

Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: A Little Bit of New :)

Quite a while ago, I won my first giveaway thanks to Emily of The Daily Fashionista! I was so excited to win the selection of springtime Forever 21 accessories :) Due to some weird post-office problems, I just got the package in the mail this week. Better late than never (darn post office!), but I love everything!

Here's my thrifting outfit from Wednesday evening, featuring a few of my new goodies:

Barrette, Sunnies and Bangle, Forever 21 via The Daily Fashionista; Sweater, Goodwill; Silk Shirt, Whitney Eve via The Row ($10!); Jeans, Goodwill; Purse, Goodwill Outlet; Flip Flops, TJ Maxx

The tale of my new shirt: My parents took the hubby, little bro, and I to International Mall in Tampa before dropping us off at the airport Monday. When we walked past the usually wayyyyy too expensive store The Row, I saw a 'Sale' sign. So I walked in and found this rack of Whitney Eve dresses and shirts, originally priced at almost $200, marked to $9.99.

I grabbed one that looked like it might fit and slipped into the fancy dressing room, and it is so perfect! Fits like a charm! As slightly embarrassing as it is wearing a shirt designed by a cast member of The Hills/ The City, I love it :) I guess Whitney was always the most normal of the bunch, anyway!

Thanks again to Emily for the lovely new things, and to my mom who insisted on buying me this lovely $200 shirt for ten bucks :)

Have a great weekend!

Amanda

A Necklace and a Lighter

This week is just flying by! It's amazing how fast it goes when you're off on Monday, even though being at work would've been much less tiring than going through the crazy travel ordeal we went through!

Anyway, I have more finds from Brandon to share with you :) The first is from Lighthouse Thrift, which I mentioned yesterday, and the second from a little antique store right by my parent's house.

Sead Bead Necklace, Lighthouse Thrift ($1); Vintage Lighter, Antique Shop ($3)

I had been to the little antique shop years ago, and I didn't remember it being anything special. But my mom brought my Grammy and I there anyway, on the off-chance that something good would be there. In the midst of overpriced knick-knacks was this really neat lighter marked down to three bucks.

It was the only cheap thing in the shop, and pretty much the coolest too! The hubby loves it :) (Although because we didn't check bags this trip, we'll have to bring it back to Richmond in June- our next Florida trip!)

The necklace was also too special to resist :) I have had such great luck lately finding non-metal necklaces- it's so nice to have options!

I hope you have a great Friday! I have to work tomorrow morning, but then I will be off to my fave thrifts for the first time in a month!

Always,
Amanda

Florida Favorite Thrifted Finds!

Before I say (um, write) anything else, try saying that post title three times fast! It has a "She sells sea shells by the sea shore" feeling :)

Anyway, on to more exciting things...like my finds from Brandon, Florida, from this past weekend! About time, right? I'm finally caught up on sleep :)

Crazy Print Beach Cover-Up, Consignment Shop ($2); Odd Mexican Woven Belt, Lighthouse Thrift ($1); Antique Book, Salvation Army ($1); Bass Leather Loafers, Goodwill ($4)

We ventured into a little consignment shop near my parent's house on Saturday after a couple thrift stops. I wasn't expecting to find anything, but when I saw this beach cover-up on the $2 rack, I had to have it! How cool is the print?

The belt is Mexican-style, and I guess you just tie it around your waist. I loved the colors and the $1 price tag- we'll see how I can style it up!

The antiques book is a no-brainer...a fun look at what old things went for in the past. I'm always up for learning new things about vintage items, so I get these books whenever I find them very cheap.

Lastly, the Bass shoes have to be my favorite find of Saturday's couple thrifts. They are brand-new super-soft leather and are perfect for work! I wore them on the way back to Richmond, and they were so comfy for speed-walking through the airport :)

I also went to a couple thrifts in Tampa on Monday before we flew out, so I'll have those and a couple more Brandon finds soon!

Amanda

My Thrifted Travel Outfit: Jeans and Stripes

I am so tired from this past weekend's trip to Florida! It's hard to even remember everything we did, since it went by so fast. I checked out a couple thrift stores in Brandon and Tampa with my family, but most of the time was spent catching up and going to graduation activities for my little bro. :)

The travel part of the weekend was less than perfect. Let's just say getting home involved changing airlines altogether, going back through security at the Tampa airport, flying through Miami, and getting in after midnight. Then both the hubby and I had to go to work early yesterday morning. Whew! I am tired!

Anyway...here's what I wore on the plane Friday night:

Outfit details:

Wolf Tee, Goodwill; Striped Button-Up, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Vera Bradley Bag, Goodwill Outlet; Flip-Flops, TJ Maxx

If I look a little worn-out in this shot, it's because it was taken in the Richmond airport right before boarding our plane, and we'd come straight from working all day! Luckily, it was a casual Friday at work, so I just changed my shirt and was ready to go :)

These jeans are beyond comfy. Pretty much in pajama territory! And the very best thing about them? After I got them home from Goodwill last Thursday night and washed them, I found $7 in the pocket!

Ahhh, the joys of thrifting :) Whomever these lovely jeans belonged to, thanks for the little gift that you accidently left for me! That brought the total cost of them to a whopping negative two dollars.

Have you ever been so lucky in your thrift shopping?

Always,
Amanda

PS: I did find some cool things in Florida, and I'll have the pictures to prove it as soon as I catch up on some sleep!

Thrifted Book Two: Jim the Boy

I finished Shopgirl by Steve Martin the other day, and I absolutely loved it! Who would've guessed that Steve Martin of all people was a brilliant writer? I thought it rang true to how life really can be, which doesn't always come through in fiction. Definitely two thumbs up from me!

The next thrifted book on my list? Jim the Boy by Tony Earley. It's the story of a boy who is living in Great Depression North Carolina, and the history of it appeals to me.

I thrifted this at the local Goodwill in Richmond, so it was all of one dollar!

With glowing reviews, I have high hopes for this little paperback. I'll of course let you know what I think once I finish :) I'll hopefully have some fresh Florida finds for you tomorrow!

Amanda

What I'm Wanting: Vintage Exercise Bike

Something I've wanted for a long time, but never had room for, is a vintage exercise bike! They are so retro-cool, and good for you too :) We have plenty of room in our apartment now, so I am actively on the hunt. Once I get back to my favorite Richmond thrifts, I'm going to check out Love of Jesus Thrift, which is most likely to have one :)

Here is an example of what I'm looking for:

Vintage Exercise Bike Painting by Justin Allen found here

I've found quite a few on eBay, but non close enough to pick up. (They are a little too expensive to ship!) I don't know how likely it is that I'll find one in working condition, but I definitely will be on the lookout :)

Have you ever thrifted any exercise things? This will certainly be my first!

Always,
Amanda

Beach Wraps For Two!

Thursday night, I went on a last-ditch effort to actually find something at my local Goodwill. Luckily, my thrift mojo had returned!  I found some super-soft jeans, a striped button-up, a book, and these great beach wraps:

Vintage beach wraps, Goodwill ($2 each)

They are both made of super-soft rayon, and will be absolutely perfect for our beach vacation in June! (I sure seem to be finding a lot of summer things lately, huh?) I actually brought the turquoise one with me to Florida as a lightweight blanket for the plane!

I used to have one of these that I thrifted in Florida years ago, but it was lost in the many moves I've made since then. I was excited to find two great ones all the way in Richmond :)

How's your weekend going? My little brother graduates college today, which is awesome! Congrats, Andrew!

Amanda

Summer Straw

It's supposed to top out at 90-something degrees in Richmond this weekend, and in Florida, too! Oh, my. Has summer come early? Maybe not, but for me it's only about a month until sunny summer days by the beach with a straw hat and flip-flops!

My latest thrifted straw hat I found at the same Pensacola Goodwill that yielded the amazing Ray Bans :) I thought I'd take this little hat's picture in a summer-like environment: my thrifted handmade quilt!

Straw hats just scream 'summer' to me. That, and sandy beach towels, thunderstorms turning into sunny afternoons, flip-flops, and almost-scorching heat. What makes you think of summer? And are you ready for it, or are you totally digging spring like I am? :)

Always,
Amanda
