My Thrifting Outfit: Polka-Dotted Flower Child

I've been trying to come up with new ways to wear some of my trusty favorites: jeans, tshirts, and sandals. I feel like it's easier to come up with unique outfits when layering is possible, and it's not when it's over a hundred degrees!

Luckily, it's cooled off a bit, and my trusty layers and a couple new things made getting dressed this morning easier:

Flower Crown Headband, Action is the Fruit Etsy Shop; Necklace, West End Antiques; Sunnies, Good Samaritan; Rayon Button-up; Goodwill; Dotted Tank, Goodwill; Gap Jeans, Goodwill; Birks, Love of Jesus; Stone Mountain Purse, Goodwill
The flower headband, dotted top, and purse are all new additions to my wardrobe! I love the headband, especially because it was made by one of my favorite bloggers, Starr from A Thought is the Blossom. It's just the thing to add a girlie touch to my outfits too!

The Stone Mountain purse is such a nice, buttery yellow color, and was quite the steal at $4. It feels very summery to me :) And you know I can't resist polka-dotted things like this comfy tank!

I hope you have a great rest of your weekend :) I'll have the new Thrifty Blogger for August up tomorrow!

Always,
Amanda

What I'm Wanting: Saltwater Sandals :)

How did you all like the hubby's first post yesterday? He was a little nervous, but I think it'll be fun to have a guy's perspective!

Anyway, I have to work this morning, but I will definitely be heading straight to the thrift stores after :) Here's what I'm looking for: (A dream find, really.)

Saltwater Sandals, Available Here on Etsy
I've been hunting for some for about a year, but I just know they'll turn up someday! Do any of you have Saltwater Sandals?

Have a great weekend!

Always,
Amanda

PS: I have a new Thrifty Blogger of the Month I'll be posting tomorrow, so I'll post my thrifting outfit later today :)

Guy Finds Friday, By Josh

Greetings fellow thrifters! It's Josh, aka: the hubby. Although I don't thrift to live and live to thrift, I do tag along sometimes, in search of 'mantiques'...

Saturday, at Goodwill Outlet, Amanda and I stumbled upon this Super Nintendo in one of the bins. I couldn't believe my eyes, 'cause just minutes before I'd been thinking that I wanted one! It's the only 1990s mainstream gaming system I haven't owned.

SNES, Goodwill Outlet ($3); SNES Games, Diversity Thrift ($3 each)

Later that day, we took a trip to Diversity Thrift, where I'd never been. On the way, I couldn't stop thinking about finding games for my new SNES. When we got there, I went straight to the glass cases and there were the Super Nintendo games I'd been looking for!

I guess, with guy finds like these, my thrifting's far from 'Game Over'.

Until next Friday,
Josh

Vintage Lovelies and Oddities

I found some great old things on Saturday! At Good Samaritan, I snatched up an old silver bowl with '1927' carved on the bottom. At the antique mall, I picked up a small wooden bowling ball trophy that once belonged to a chap named 'Hap'. Or maybe that was his special bowling name?

Tiny Bowling Pin, West End Antiques ($1); Plastic Gun Tape Measure, W.E.A. ($5); Silver Bowl, Good Samaritan
(50 cents)
The most odd of these treasures has to be the plastic gun tape measure! Have you ever seen such a thing? The very best part of it is that once you've measured your item, you pull the trigger to get the tape back in the gun! Ahhh, such fun!

Happy Thursday, everyone :)

My Thrifting Outfit: Freshly Thrifted Picks!

Sunday, the hubby and I braved the intense 105 degree heat to check out an estate sale near our apartment. Unfortunately, it was mostly a bust, but it did give me a chance to throw on some of Saturday's thrifted finds!
Striped Shirt, Love of Jesus; Vintage Sunnies, Good Samaritan; Necklace, West End Antiques; Purse, Goodwill Outlet; Jeans, Goodwill; Birkenstocks, Love of Jesus (100% Thrifted!)

And guess what? I actually remembered to have the hubby take some close-ups! I usually forget, although I'm going to try and do this more often. (Although I'm sure you don't especially need to see my blue polka-dotted toenail polish!)

Birks, Love of Jesus ($1); Necklace, West End Antiques ($12)

I usually don't spend as much as twelve bucks on a necklace (or anything, really...) but I had to make an exception for this one :) I can even carry something tiny in the little pouch!

I hope everyone's having a great week!

Always,
Amanda

Chucks, Birks, and a Purse

I've always been a Converse girl. Well, at least since 9th grade, when my good pal Lindsay got some and I thought they were the coolest thing ever!

Imagine my excitement when they brought out new bins of shoes at Goodwill Outlet Saturday, and there sat brand new Chucks- in my size!

Naturally, I grabbed them and hi-tailed it away from the crazies throwing shoes everywhere as they dug. I'm not about to get yelled at by one of the extreme thrifters again :)

Love of Jesus also had a pair of shoes I've been wanting: good ol' comfy Birkenstocks in a cute variation of the originals.

I've sadly worn my thrifted fringed sandals down to nothing, so the Birks will be a great replacement for these last couple scorcher months :)

Lastly, I found this Chanel-like purse at Goodwill Outlet. I have always thought the copy-cat ones were kind of silly, but this one is more special feeling.

The faux-alligator top and black quilted bottom together make it a bit nicer than the usual peeling-vinyl plain ones. It's probably just the black/brown purse combo rubbing off on me from my mom :)

Have any of you found anything fun lately? I know some of you are participating in the remix challenge going around the blogosphere, but I bet you'll have epic thrifting luck after a 30 day absence!

I hope you have a great Tuesday :)

The Most Perfect Vintage Sunnies!

Let me start off by saying that I wasn't the one who picked these amazing sunnies out of a little bin at Good Samaritan. That would be my lovely husband, who playfully put them on my face and saw that they were perfect!

Upon closer inspection, I saw that these glamorous sunglasses were made in Italy. The construction and style verify that they are indeed vintage, and probably from the 1950s or 60s!

Vintage Sunglasses, Good Samaritan (99 cents)

I am so excited about these! The lenses are really nice and barely scratched at all, and everything else is in such good condition. You can tell that they are super-quality :)

I have some other great finds, but I just couldn't wait to show you all my favorite!

Always,
Amanda

My Thrifting Outfit: Mix and Match

It was about 104 degrees here in Richmond yesterday! How does a girl dress to go thrifting in that kind of heat? For me, it meant picking the lightest-weight clothing I had and putting it together :) A little mix and match with a couple accessories to make things more interesting, without adding layers of any kind!

Silky Top, Goodwill; Camo Shorts, Goodwill; Fringed Sandals, Goodwill Outlet; Purse, Goodwill Outlet; Gator Pin, Estate Sale; Necklace, Lighthouse Ministries Thrift; Sunglasses, Salvation Army (100% Thrifted!)
Despite the heat, the hubby and I made out with some great finds! I managed to dig out a Super Nintendo from the Goodwill Outlet bins for him. He'll talk more about that for Guy Finds Friday. (He finally agreed to write the guy posts! So excited!)

The hubby grabbed an awesome find for me at Good Samaritan- a 1960s pair of cat-eye, made in Italy sunglasses! For 99 cents!

It was a really good day- I can't wait to show you everything :) Oh, and here's a close-up of the gator pin I wore:

My younger brother is a Florida gator, so I like to rock the gator accessories when I can :) Have a great, relaxing Sunday!

What I'm Wanting: Strappy Wedges

Since I thrifted my Clarks wedges a couple weeks ago, I've become more confident in my ability to balance in them! I decided to take the next step and start looking for another pair :)

Here's what I'm looking for:

Wedge Sandals from This Etsy Shop
I think that being strapped on will help these stay on my feet, even if I am a little wobbly. (I'm sort of clumsy...I twisted my ankle walking down the stairs last year!)

Other things I'm searching for this week: breezy summer clothes, good books, and some cool non-metal bracelets. It's supposed to be 106 here today, so the hubby and I are going to get an early start on thrifting to beat the heat!

Have a great weekend :)

Guy Finds Friday

In light of the fact that my dad and uncle and a couple other guys read this little blog, I've decided to start 'Guy Finds Friday'! I'm hoping my awesome, slightly reluctant thrifting buddy (my hubby) will write one of these posts soon :)

This week, I'm going to show you the cool guy things I got for him this past weekend:

Vintage Metal Airplane, Goodwill Outlet; Vintage Razor, Estate Sale; Niagara Falls Pipe, Estate Sale
My favorite would have to be the crazy razor! You squeeze the two handles and it really works like an electric one. (Unfortunately, the hubby found this out the hard way when we saw one at an antique store once. He shaved a whole patch of hair right off his arm!)

The pipe, while not totally functional, was only a dollar and has 'Niagara Falls' on it! Definitely a manly souvenir if I've ever seen one.

I hope you have a happy Friday! I can't wait to hit the thrifts tomorrow :)

Amanda

Man, That's a Big Rock!

I've kind of had a thing for bolos lately! I got my first one months and months ago, and then the wooden man one from etsy. However, the sparkly green rock bolo I found at Heritage Antiques on Saturday for five bucks is my new favorite :)

Rock Bolo, Heritage Antiques ($5); Outfit: Shirt, Goodwill; Jeans, Goodwill; Sandals, Goodwill Outlet; Ray Bans, Goodwill; Purse, Goodwill Outlet (100% Thrifted!)

I decided not to do a whole post about this outfit since I've worn something similar before, but I definitely wanted to show you my bolo :) It's the perfect necklace solution for non-metal wearing gals like me!

Hope you all are having a great week :) It's almost Friday!

A Chromatica Harmonica and Columbus Colors

One of the estate sales I went to on Saturday was awesome! Inside I found all sorts of treasures, including yesterday's spider book :) Then I ventured into the backyard and they had tables set up with more goodies!

It was out here that I found these vintage treasures:

Vintage Chromatica Harmonica ($5); Vintage Columbus Professional Colored Pencils ($2)

I was drawn to the harmonica because I can (sort of) play them. (I can actually play acoustic guitar, though!) This old harmonica is twice as awesome as regular ones because it has a knob on the side where you can change keys while playing!

The colored pencils are actually labeled as 'crayon pencils' and they color just like your favorite childhood crayons made grown-up. I am definitely a doodler, so I love these, and the colors are amazing :)

I hope your week is going well! Have you thrifted anything interested lately?

Amanda

Mr. Spider, The Lord of Terror!

There is no bug that scares me more than spiders do. Not even cockroaches. I mean, some spiders can kill you! I wonder if that's the premise of this awesome vintage book I picked up at an estate sale Saturday? I honestly just got it for the spine!

Vintage 1930s Book, Estate Sale ($1); Spider Ring, Goodwill Outlet (2 cents); Flower Pin, Estate Sale ($1)

I couldn't resist putting all the black/morbid-ish things from Saturday together for a photo :) I picked up this Halloween spider ring at Goodwill Outlet for almost nothing since it weighs so little. I always did like those rings, even with my fear of spiders. And the flower pin was a no-brainer for me. You all know my love of pins!

The book is definitely my favorite of these finds, though. The title plus the illustration equals an awesome book to have on our shelf! I hope you all are having a great week :)

Sometimes, You Do Find What You're Looking For :)

Excepting the crazy lady at Goodwill Outlet Saturday, I had some great thrifting luck :) I found some things I've been searching for, and some unique vintage goodies as well! I guess I didn't jinx myself after all by writing about what I was wanting :)

Here, my friends, are the two main things I was searching for this week and found:

Unique, Non-Metal Jewelry, Good Samaritan (about $2 for all)

and

Fringed Leather Bucket-Style Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($2)

I actually found the purse right before the crazy lady came up to me at Goodwill Outlet. If it wasn't in my hand when she yelled at me to get out of her way, I wouldn't have gone back to get it! I wish everyone would just be nice :)

I have plenty more goodies to show you this week! I totally lucked out and found the hubby some awesome things too. I've been trying to get him to do a guest post about his goodies. Sometimes, I think he's become a better thrifter than me!

My Thrifting Outfit: A Bolo and Studs

I had my first really negative thrifting experience yesterday at Goodwill Outlet. I was sifting through the purse bin with no one else around me, when this lady came up and started yelling at me and pushing me out of her way. It was very disturbing and definitely put a damper on my thrifting fun.

The rest of my day went a lot better, thankfully. I found some great things, including most of what I was looking for! Here's what I wore:

Shirt, Goodwill; Tank, F21; Jeans, Goodwill; Flip-Flops, Goodwill Outlet; Studded Bag, Goodwill Outlet; Bolo, Etsy; Sunglasses, Available in Another's Treasure Etsy Shop!

The reason I wore those vintage round aviators that I put in the shop? They were the closest pair of sunnies on my way out the door! Don't worry- I polished them right back up after I wore them :)

Well, that's about all for today! But I have plenty to share with you this week since yesterday was also spent visiting two estate sales and an antique shop :)

What I'm Wanting: A Fringed Leather Bucket Bag

You know how yesterday I got all weird on you and told the pretend story of two wooden animals? Sometimes I let my imagination get the best of me, and I get to thinking about the past and future lives of thrifted things! And I actually left a word out of one of the sentences, as my eagle-eyed dad pointed out for me :) Let's just write it off as an odd post. Deal?

Anyway...this week I'm looking for a great fringed leather bucket-style bag. I've had my eyes peeled for quite some time- I even bought one on etsy that turned out to be not so great. (Smelled like it was used as an ashtray of some sort. Yuck.)

Here's one that does look great, and is pretty close to what I'm wanting:

Fringed Leather Bag found here on etsy

Of course unique accessories are still on the list, too :) Oh, and while I'm totally jinxing myself from ever finding these goodies, I'd like some Polaroid 600 film too!

You never know, though. That's the beauty of thrifting. Tomorrow might be the day that I walk into Goodwill Outlet and find a fringed bucket bag, some 30 cent jewelry, Polaroid film, and designer shoes!

I know most of you who read this understand what I mean. It's not like going to the mall, where you pretty much know what you'll find. A thrift store can be like the toy store is for kids. You get that little excited flutter in your heart as you walk through the door, where amazing finds may be just moments away.

Have a great Saturday!! (Can you tell I'm ready to get out and thrift? Lol!)

Always,
Amanda

The Zebra and the Elephant

As you may have noticed, I've changed up my post titles to be reminiscent of quirky vintage books. For some reason (probably from reading hundreds of books throughout the years) it's easier for me to think of a book title than a blog post title for my thrifted finds :)

Today, I'm going to tell you the tale of two wooden animals with movable arms and legs. Meet Elephant and Zebra:

Wooden Shelf Animals, Goodwill ($3)

The zebra and the elephant lived a long, happy life with their first owner. They dangled their feet off of the bookshelf they shared with battered classic novels, and they were happy. One day, their owner had to move to a new city, and they just wouldn't fit in the few boxes they could take. So they were brought to Goodwill and they hoped for another lovely home.

It was soon after they arrived that they were purchased by a young woman and her husband. They would have a happy home after all! That's how they came to chat on the edge of a balcony about their new glamorous lives- with a photo shoot and blog appearance and all.

The End.

(Don't tell the poor elephant and zebra that they were probably from Pier 1 or some such and that this will be their only blog appearance. It might break their little wooden hearts!)

Amanda

The Vintage Market Tote and the Home for Scarves

I stopped in my local Goodwill with the hubby on Sunday to look for 1920s-esque items for his sister's upcoming themed birthday party. He found a sharp-looking grey suit for less than twenty bucks, but I didn't find anything that could pass as 20s.

I did find an adorable 1970s market tote, though:

Vintage Market Tote, Goodwill ($4)

When I got home, I realized that it's the perfect thing to hold my vintage scarves! You can see a couple of them already peeking out the sides :) I suppose it's not quite vintage enough for the 20s party though.

So, yeah. I'm looking for something to wear that can pass as 1920s and is not one of those weird flapper-girl Halloween costumes. Help me out if you have any ideas! I'm not really a dress girl, but maybe I can find something...

Happy Thursday :)

Amanda

Seven Eleven and the Odd Estate Sale

There weren't any major estate sales last weekend, but there was one small, family-run one that I ventured to on Sunday. When I was there,it was fairly empty of shoppers and random things were everywhere! The family members running the sale just said to step over the junk to get a better look at...well, the other junk.

Do you know how it is when you're one of the only shoppers in a store or sale, and you feel like you should buy something 'cause you feel bad? That was me. Luckily, I found a little baggie of vintage pins:

Random Vintage Pins, Estate Sale ($3 for all)

I was happy to leave the strange other items behind. Among them: a slew of outdated cell phones marked $25 each, dangerous-looking kitchen tools of all sorts, closets full of stained clothing, and a stifling smell of smoke.

While it's true that some of these are found in near all estate sales, usually I find more lovely things amongst the craziness :) I guess I'm lucky to have found these interesting pins, at least! Although I think the large round one might be actual snakeskin, which freaks me out a little...

Have you been to any estate sales lately?

Amanda

Black, Brown and Corn on the Cob

When I see a black and brown pretty leather purse, I think of my mom. She's sported black/brown purses since I can remember because they go with everything! So when I saw this one at Goodwill Outlet, I thought I'd give the black and brown a try :)

Leather Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($2); Made in Japan Vintage Corn Holders, Goodwill Outlet (<$1)

I couldn't believe it when I spotted these corn cob holders in a bin at Goodwill Outlet! They are so neat, and the hubby and I love corn on the cob :) Definitely one of my more random finds to date, though.

How is your week going so far? I always love to hear from you- especially any of your recently thrifted goodies!

Snoopy, Captains Courageous and the Unique Wallet

Even though I find quirky jewelry of some sort almost every weekend, I didn't find any this weekend! Perhaps I jinx myself when I write about what I'm looking for? Oh well, no biggie :)

I did find unique things in a red and white leather wallet, and some neat old kid's books:

Wallet, Goodwill Outlet ($1); Books, Love of Jesus ($1)

I'm not sure what brand the wallet is, just that it's nice leather and reminds me of a swiss army knife! I like it so much that I emptied out my old wallet and started using the new one right away :)

The books are both from the 1950s, and I especially love the Snoopy one!

Have a great Monday :)

My Thrifting Outfit: A Boater Hat for a Rainy Day

I was glad to be able to wear the vintage boater hat I thrifted last week, even though it was overcast and rainy! It turns out that it served pretty well as a little umbrella :)

Here's my breezy, comfy outfit:

Boater Hat, Family Thrift; Dotted Shirt, Nearly New Thrift; Button Necklace, Waterfront Rescue Mission; Pants, Goodwill; Leather Sandals, Family Thrift; Coach Purse, Goodwill Outlet; Sunglasses, Marshalls

It almost felt like I was sneaking out in my pajamas with my rayon shirt and lightweight pants! But when you can get away with wearing something so comfy, why not?

Hope you're having a great weekend!

What I'm Wanting: Unique Non-Metal Jewelry!

The fact that I have an allergic reaction to most metals makes it difficult to find interesting accessories. For this reason, non-metal jewelry is always near the top of my thrift list. This week, however, it is the main thing I'm searching for.

I've been browsing etsy vintage shops lately and seeing very, very unique pieces made of glass, plastic, or wood. Here's one that I couldn't pass up:
Vintage Wood Face Carving Leather Bolo from Penorus Etsy Shop

How neat is that? I know that my dad, if he's reading this, will think I'm crazy for wanting an odd little man's face as a necklace. But what can I say? I love little quirky things!

Wish me luck!

Amanda

Thrifted Remix: The Perfect Red Necklace

When I bought this red beaded necklace for fifty cents in a shop called 'A Yard Sale' in Florida, I didn't know it'd become a new wardrobe staple. But I've found myself wearing it nearly every day I have off work!

While most of those outfits weren't captured, these two appeared on the blog:

The middle photo is a closer-up of the featured necklace and another colorful one from Florida :) I love how the beads alternate, making an interesting touch to a cool necklace.

Do you have any pieces that you've been wearing with everything this summer? I'd love to hear about them!

Always,
Amanda

On the Road Again...

...Not for real, though! I wish I was on the road, travelling somewhere new with the hubby and stopping at multiple thrift shops along the way :) I just had to label this post as such because that's what I think of when I see the pin I'm showing you all!

You see, normally at this point in the week I would be showing you the fabulous things I found at the past Sunday's estate sale. Since it was a holiday, there were none this past weekend. So I dug up a couple things I hadn't shown you from the week before!

On the Road Again Pin; Las Vegas Loot Bag; Both: Estate Sale from June

I had forgotten about this cute little pin! It was stashed away with the ones for the etsy shop, but I think I may hold on to him for a little while :) He looks like he's on the beginning of a long journey, doesn't he?

The Las Vegas loot bag was a birthday present for my awesome younger brother. (Happy Birthday, Andrew!) I had to wait to make sure he'd gotten it in the mail before I showed it on my blog!

I hope you all are having a nice week so far :) Mine's going by pretty fast since I had Monday off!

Circle Sunglasses: Old and New

So, I found the perfect vintage circle aviator-style sunglasses on Saturday while thrifting. Then, an hour later, I found the perfect pair of new circle sunglasses on super-clearance at Marshalls!

Naturally, I got both and decided to wear them around to see which I liked best. Since the new ones are Cynthia Rowley and stay on my little nose better, I chose them :)

Here are both, side-by-side:

Vintage Round Aviators, Another's Treasure Etsy Shop; Cynthia Rowley Vintage Honey Sunnies, Marshall's

I love the vintage ones, but the new sunnies are so perfect for me that I know I won't wear them enough. Off to the etsy shop they go!

I've been trying to post more items in the shop, but it's been way too darn hot to take pictures outside. I've just kind of settled on decent indoor ones until it cools down a little bit :)

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Amanda

Adventures of a Cheap Antiquer

Saturday I found some great things, like the pretty leather goods I showed you all yesterday. However, I didn't find that many things. Which was all good, since I spent less than ten bucks, and half of that was the sandals!

All this to say that today I'm showing you the rest of what I thrifted this weekend. I found, after all this time, the perfect vintage boater hat! And, after re-reading the Mary Kay Andrews book at the beach, I found a couple more of hers to read, along with this post's namesake:

Boater Hat, Family Thrift ($1); Books, Goodwill Outlet ($2 for all)

I can't wait to read all of those books, but I couldn't help but start with Adventures of a Cheap Antiquer by Arline Beitler! It was written in the 1970s, and it talks about how the prices in the thrift stores are rising, and how Salvation Army is the place to still get a deal. I find it so interesting to read about someone's adventures searching for old things back when my parents were in high school :)

And the boater hat? Definitely another thing I thought I'd never be able to find at a thrift store! Remember when I gave up and got a Target dollar section one? I'm happy to now have two, although perhaps the vintage one might make it's way to the etsy shop eventually.

Have a great Tuesday :)

Amanda

Woven Leather Bag, Check! Leather Sandals, Check!

There are some things on my mental thrift list (I really should write it down somewhere...) that I don't really expect to find. I mean, the Toms shoes? I never thought those would turn up at my local Goodwill, which is wayyyy hit or miss.

Sometimes, when I do my 'what I'm wanting' posts, I find that item that day, easily. Other times, it may take months. Like the perfect woven leather purse I posted about way back in January . Or great, quality leather sandals from May.

Well, here they are!
Brand-New Clarks Wedges, Family Thrift ($5); Vintage Woven Leather Purse, Goodwill Outlet ($2)

I was so happy to finally cross these off my list! They are both good quality and lovely leather, so I'm hoping they'll last me quite awhile. I have some things I've been searching for for friends and family, but do you all have anything you'd like me to try and find? I'd love to get your input on what you'd like to see in the etsy shop- and everything I put in there will always be $15 or less!

Have a great Monday!

My Thrifting Outfit: Happy Independence Day!

I decided to go ahead and wear my red, white and blue yesterday since today I plan on just hanging out at my apartment, reading books and magazines. (The hubby has to work a 12 hour shift today, but we're both off tomorrow :))

I've found that when wearing these colors together, subtlety is key! One of the shirts I thrifted in Florida and  a newly thrifted necklace for a little red made for an easy, patriotic outfit:

Sunnies, Salvation Army; Striped Shirt, Goodwill in Florida; Jeans, Goodwill; Flip-Flops, Goodwill Outlet; Vintage Coach Purse, Goodwill Outlet; Necklace, A Yard Sale Shop in Florida (100% Thrifted!)

I am obviously loving these thrifted flip-flops, despite the fact that I never thought I'd buy them at a thrift store. I like to think these are different, though: the fringe detail makes them a bit fancier than Dollar Tree ones, and since they're from Goodwill Outlet, they were only two bucks :)

I did manage to thrift brand new, leather Clarks wedges yesterday for five bucks, so I'll have some non-flip-flop sandals for this hundred-degree heat! Happy fourth, everyone!

Amanda

What's New in the Etsy Shop!

I was saying yesterday that I found a bunch of great pins and jewelry for the etsy shop, so I thought I'd show you some of what's new! I have a bunch of things to list this weekend, but I couldn't wait to list these adorable little goodies:

Red Eyed Owl Pin; Little Turtle Pin; Two Silly Little Clowns Pins; Large Tiger Hoop Pin: All, Another's Treasure Etsy Shop

I've already sold a super-cute doggie pin, and there are so many more to list and share with you all at super-affordable prices :) I'm also going to go through my personal stash of neat vintage items, including a vintage Coach purse or two and some awesome scarves!

Well, I'm off to work all morning, and then I get to thrift all afternoon :) Here's hoping that I find some awesome goodies to share with you all!

Leather and Gold and Sparkles, Oh My!

The estate sale the hubby and I went to this past Sunday was nothing short of a goldmine! I usually go to estate sales on the last day, since the prices are generally reduced and I almost always find something I love for close to nothing. This sale was interesting because it was 50% off before 3 pm and then 75% off from 3-5 pm.

We went at about 1, and there were hardly any people there! I snagged a leather suitcase for $2 and an expandable leather tote for $1 and was super happy with my finds. That's when I saw the huge tupperware container filled with vintage pins and jewelry. The prices were a little steep for me, so I decided to buy the bags and come back later for the pins...

Leather Suitcase ($2); AT Initials Sweater Clip ($0.25); Leather Expandable Tote ($1); Leapard Pin ($1)

When I went back (by myself...no way was I dragging my poor hubby back to the same estate sale!), it was packed. I had to park probably a quarter mile away from the house and walk alongside the long line of parallel-parked cars back to the estate sale.

Inside the house, it was insane. The tupperware container with the jewelry was surrounded by about 10 women who were throwing treasures in their shopping bags without even looking at them! I managed to wedge my way in and grabbed all the pretty things I could. Luckily, most of the pieces I had my eye on earlier were still there!

I lucked out and ended up with some pretty pins and jewelry, most of which are in or on their way to my little etsy shop. I had to keep the pretty leopard pin and the initialed sweater clip...it's 'AT'! For either Amanda Turner or Another's Treasure :)

What a fun day! Happy Friday, everyone!

Thrifty Blogger of the Month: Megan of Transmission Me

I am excited to announce a new Another's Treasure monthly feature: Thrifty Blogger of the Month! I always enjoy reading personal style blogs that feature thrifted goods, and I can't wait to share them with you all :)

The first thrifty blogger is Megan of the blog Transmission Me. She is such a sweet person who knows how to rock awesome thrifted clothing in her everyday life.

I did a little interview with Megan so you can get to know a little more about her and why she's well-deserving of the first thrifty blogger of the month :) (Highlighted in purple are my favorites of her ideas and quotes!)

Amanda: When did you first start thrift shopping, and why did you begin?
Megan: My family and I lived in a rural part of Maryland, and we did not have many close shopping options (Target and Old Navy did not exist back then!). My high school friends and I would frequent a small volunteer-run thrift store and pick up worn original Levi's and army pants that went perfectly with our Doc Martens. Our favorite trick was finding little girls' patterned turtlenecks and cutting the tops off into boatnecks. I still do that sometimes!

When I started working in an office, I switched to shopping for clothing at regular retail stores, and quickly grew nauseous at the sight of rows and rows of the exact same item and at ridiculous prices. I started to frequent thrift shops again to find blazers and slacks that didn't cost a fortune. One day I just realized that I am, and always will be, crazy about the rush of finding something unique and special for a few dollars.

Amanda: What do you consider your best thrifted find ever?

Megan: I found my wedding gift "container" while thrift store shopping! I wanted to incorporate vintage and romantic pieces into my wedding decor, and I found a gorgeous decorative bird cage that fit with the antique brass look that I adore. The wedding cards slipped nicely into the slots, and I was thrilled to find it while I was actually still doing the wedding planning.

Amanda: What would be the ultimate coolest thing to see for a dollar at a thrift store? (Mine would be vintage Ray Bans!)

Megan: Oh yes, finding vintage sunnies would be the bomb! I'm also always on the look out for the perfect faux-leather engineer boots. I love the look of those boots with knee high socks and a floral dress. Hoping to find some before Fall so wish me luck!

Amanda: Do you have any tips on finding great things while thrifting? Please share!

Megan: Thanks for asking! I narrowed it down to four that I've found to be the most useful to me:

1. Study your favorite styles in magazines, blogs, and websites before you go. I started doing this over the last six months and it has helped me tremendously in my choices. It also helps with writing my posts because I can write about what inspired me to pick it out.
2. Pick items out first because you love the pattern, color, or texture, and then look at the size. If you really love it, but it is not exactly the right fit, with a little imagination, nip, or tuck, you can make it work! I learned to buy things I LOVE, not because I think I need them because they are my size and I kinda liked them. My spending has been cut in half and I adore every single item that comes into my home.

3. Spring or summer, winter or fall, make sure you wear a tank top underneath so you can try things on if there is no dressing room (or the line is too long!). Most of the time I just find a mirror that is out of the way, and spend 10 minutes or so throwing things on and off.

4. Lastly, don't forget to look at jewelry! I have found amazing pieces by closely examining the different clumps of jewelry behind the glass case at the counter. Recently I found some hand-painted vintage screw-on earrings, very similar to ones I inherited from my grandmother. They sold them to me for $2. Also, my beautiful brooch collection is growing because I started to pay more attention to that section of the store.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best thrift store adventures!!

Isn't she great? Be sure to check out Megan's lovely blog Transmission Me and her Chictopia.

Amanda
